Microsoft office 2016 is being sold on ebay for £14.90. The seller ha 100% positive feedback and has sold over 100. The dvd comes in plain sleeve with no expiry date and unlimited machine insallations. The licence key is in the disc, this seems too good to be true but all the buyers are satisfied. Is this a legit? Just wonder!!

A few years back we did some office refurbs and the tech guys with us were installing 1000 plus pc's along with servers and infratructure over several weekends.

All the PC's were server linked and set up using a master boot DVD but in each DELL box was a factory sealed copy of windows (I think it was 2000) as well as an office DVD as well. All had full licence codes on the back.

This could be something similar and reason they are sent in plain wraps is to ensure they cant be linked back to original owner (who may be completely unaware they ever owned them in the first place and is using a group license anyway).

So they may work 100% (hence the feedback) but could still be a bit dodgy.......

I think the strong feedback suggests they are not blatant knock offs but just because its a genuine copy doesn't mean its a legitimate genuine copy....

yes a similar thing happened way back with win 2000 and the DHSS , hundreds of copies of disk and keys sat in a spare room .

check the feedbacks , the ones I quickly looked at all seemed to be "clones" of other feedbacks , ie: only about 5 feedbacks looked genuine , the rest copied and pasted

Doesn't happen anymore, Dell don't even issue OS disks as standard.
Even if it were you would be looking at way more that the asking price.

They still do on corporate purchases. We have a stack of Win 8.1 Pro discs from the latest purchase. HP still do as well.

Normally in a corporate environment they will not get used because the first thing that happens is the machines being rebuilt using an image that incorporates everything that the company wants on the machine

If you allow MS to do updates, look out for the one that checks for genuine software. If you have had it (it auto runs) in the last month or so I would say, whilst the Office 2016 may or may not be genuine, it has passed MS's tests.

Surely the source of the disk doesn't matter, even if someone is just burning the install onto blanks themselves? all that matter is the key is valid.

Companies do stupid things, mine bought hundreds of laptops supplied with Win 7 keys, they were not ready for Win 7 yet so re-imaged them all with an XP install (buying another set of licences). Then 18 months later re-imaged again to Win 7 buying another set of licences!

The feedback suggests that people who have bought it are happy but have also installed it (and the updates) so have connected with Microsoft to do so.

Most PC users are fairly non technical and a lot of the pirate versions of office require you to disconnect from the internet during install and enter the license code prior to reconnecting and while not overly complex I think it people were doing this the feedback wouldnt be as good (as it wouldnt always work).

Thats what made me think it had come through as OEM from a corporate deal as there are plenty of these floating about.

I did press the button and buy one after seeing the original post (on the hunch it was part of a corporate batch that had ended up locked away in a store room).

The seller is fairly new but been around long enough for ebay to be happy. Either way should be able to let you know when the disk arrives this week.

It is. I have a genuine Office Pro Plus disc and it is nothing like that.

MS Office discs have a coloured background, that is a white printable disc.
Activation key on disc? Definitely a homebrew disc possibly using a VLK that MS will eventually pick up on.
