As for adding up as you go along, my shopping list is on a post it attached to the trolley, I tot up in my head and every time I get to £5 I note it on there, that way if I lose track I will never be more than that out
.
The print is so small on a lot of stuff, I struggle to read it and that's with glasses on! I'm diabetic, so try to be careful with ingredients.
Good idea about post it attached to trolley - Mr T used to have a clip board attached to their trolleys for shopping lists, not sure whether they still do.0 -
I think you should congratulate yourself, as being a sweet grey haired old Granny;) I would have been so tempted to smile sweetly, and given her some advice from the Almighty
i.e. Go forth and multiply,
I can just imagine this woman having a go at you and a couple of dozen MSEers rounding on her and telling her off. :rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I often stop and check my receipt after I've gone through the checkout, as there can be mistakes; if I'm out of the way then it's nobody else's business.0

There are some horrid, rude and downright nasty people around -if they get so worked up about a slight annoyance in public - it makes you wonder what they are like, unleashed, behind closed doors. Hope Karma bites her on the bum!
I've had to stick to a strict food budget for years now so I always price check the weight/price of packs, add my shopping up as I go around so I don't get an nasty shock at the till. I know straight away if I have been overcharged (which happens surprisingly often) and query the till receipt there and then. Also it gives you an awareness of the price of each item so when things go 'on offer' else where, you know if its a genuine bargain.:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Cue horrible woman, tutting and glaring at me ( I assume I was in her way ) and as she walked of she turned and said 'if you are so broke you have to add it up live off your fat for a while'
 I'm surprised someone hasn't clocked her one if she goes round talking to people like that! You do sometimes hear of fights starting in supermarkets. You get nutters anywhere, but I'm often convinced that supermarkets don't bring out the best in people!
Earlier this week I had to get my purse out while I was in the CoOp and count up what little money I had to make sure I had enough to pay for my items. Luckily no-one seemed to bat an eyelid, and I was able to get what I needed. I dread to think what that woman would have said to me! :rotfl:0 -
There are lovely people in supermarkets too - last Christmas, we were in the usual horrendous queue in morries, and an older lady was 2 in front of me, and was very embarrassed not to have enough money, so asked the cashier to deduct a box of chocolate biscuits, the young lad in front of me quietly said to her, please allow me to pay for those - me, the lady and the cashier had tears in our eyes - such a lovely gesture.
Also, in our Aldi it appears to be the general rule to let people in front of you if they only have a couple of bits and you,ve got loads - wouldn,t it be lovely if that miserable old mare ends up reading all thisNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

What a horrible person she must be. Good on you for taking control.
I witnessed something similar just yesterday in Costco, one of the free samples was Victoria sponge and we had a bit and another lady after us took 3 bits one for her and one bit each for 2 kids she had with her. We walked on a bit and I overheard a woman saying to the man she was with "now isn't that a prime example of why she shouldn't be eating cake", luckily the woman never heard her but tbh honest I'm a bit on the plump side myself so was a bit offended on her behalf. It just makes you think what miserable life's people have to make such hurtful comments about complete strangers.TSB CC- £1327.34

Hey cheel
I would feel sorry for her - 1) she clearly has a horrible life if all she can do is be nasty to a random stranger 2) she will end up poor and fat if she doesnt take care of the pennies, as you are so wisely doing and 3) if she carries on like that - Karma will get to her in the end 4) she will probably be reincarnated as something unpleasant several times until she learns the lessons (eg a bug which is repeatedly squashed).
What would I have done - smiled and been extra nice - (bad for my Karma I know) but it really winds nasty people up and there is little they can do about it!! But hopefully one day they will, as the ancient teaching says 'life gives us only lessons and gifts - learn the lesson and it becomes a gift'
You keep on frugalling girl! you have learnt and will help save the planet! :rotfl:
