It doesn't matter what is going on in my life, in my head, or how confident I feel etc to the outside world I put on a mask that I feel suggests I am a confident woman of intelligence, has a calm, quiet and friendly aura and is polite.
I don't believe I have ever had an altercation outdoors like that but I have encountered many a nasty or hurtful comment when I have felt my confidence slide in the workplace and it's awful... having an even greater effect on confidence.
It doesn't matter where you stood in the likes of Lidl or Aldi Cheel it would have been in the way of someone looking at something. Letting it brush off you will probably be hard but putting that mask on will hopefully mean no one will try that again any time soon, I think anyway.
People who wish to knock others, upset others, intentionally goad others etc do so because it helps to make them feel better as they preach their expectations or put someone else down for not enabling them to acheive their expectations. The Wholier Than Thou and the High And Mighty mask are the mask of choice for a person who feels indignant based on their own selfish and often expectant terms.
Cheel here's to being a pleasant, smiling, quietly confident mask wearer. Cheat it until you can achieve it for real.
Just to note that Aldi/Lidl workers are amongst the hard working amongst us. They run the whole store as well as serve us, trying to keep the queues down. I haven't met one who puts in minimum effort. They are a focused workforce that have to prioritise efficiently to not be effected by 'too much to do but I have to serve this customer, and this, and this...' stress, from what I have seen.
They have always earned more than minimum pay for this and rightly so as I don't believe they could could keep their job if they only applied minimum effort.0 -

Today, Mr LW stopped to get cash out of the ATM so I said I'd carry on and start the shopping and he could catch up. I wanted tomato puree but couldn't reach it from my wheelchair, so a fellow customer was kind enough to fetch it down for me. :A
Then when we got to the till, I had a purse full of schrapnel to get rid of - my bill came to £36.68, so I paid £35 in notes and took a little time counting out the £1.68 in oddments, mostly 5p pieces and coppers. No-one said a word about hurrying up, and the cashier was happy to check I'd done it correctly. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Thankyou everyone. Yes a mask it will be. Sometimes I wonder if people have a sixth sense to find those of us who are a bit wobbly in the confidence department!! XxNo one can make you feel inferior without your consent - Eleanor Roosevelt

No cheel - they are like it with EVERYONE! as some of the replies have shown we all have our own way of dealing with people like this. Years in retail have trained me to remain smiling and polite (while quietly seething) with customers like this. you have a moment where you mentally boil them in oil then forget them! they really are not worth a minute of your time.
Oh and keep on smiling and being OS! at the end of the day - YOU will be the winner as you gain control over your finances. you never know - you could end up quids in! I have thanks to this board. I ALWAYS have some spare cash now - after years with an empty purse two days before payday!0 -
In the 90's a couple of supermarkets had calculators on their trolleys. I found them invaluable, I would add up as I went round and get everything on my list first, and then if I still had money left in my budget after that I'd add some treat items as I was confident I could afford them. I think it was Somerfield & Safeway.0

how awful ! nasty nasty lady, if you cant say anything nice you shouldn't say anything xx:j First prizes back into comping after a break - romantic break to 2 to Venice/ Paris or Rome with romantic trip and a 42 inch TV and blu Ray amazing !
Thank you all so much and good luck guys and girls xxxxxx0 -
Agree with all above, a nasty thing to say.
I don't have the gumption to reply, so I follow some different advice- I let the comment drop to the floor like unwanted litter. You don't have to take it home with you.
I always add-up as I go round Tesco - on a large envelope, to the nearest 5p. (I do have a phone but I keep it hidden as much as possible.) I'll borrow a pen from Customer services if I've left mine behind, and some trolleys have a small clipboard for your shopping list. I'd be lost without my list, which also has a list of things "in house" that need using up. Keeping within budget is preferable.0 -
Thanks every one.
I think I'm doing ok. I have nipped into aldi since for,the odd thing I needed, and everthings been ok.
Noticeable that the holidaymakers have returned, mainly because they forget to take their Eden sticker off. And they are all so happy, it's lovely! (I dont drive so am not bothered about the jams! ) xxNo one can make you feel inferior without your consent - Eleanor Roosevelt

And there's the difference between you and this other lady, you get pleasure from seeing other people being happy, she takes pleasure in trying to make other people miserable.
