 Sheesh, what a cowbag that woman was.

Lotsa good tips here already. People don't often harrass me but that may be to do with being nearly a foot taller than cheel; even verbal bullies tend to be cowardly and I look as if I might be dangerous if provoked.

A good tip if someone is being an a*se is to look them slooowly up and down, from feet to head, and back again, then smile gently whilst shaking your head and tutting. It really disconcerts people for some reason.

Or you can make a loud NEE-NAW noise at them as if you're a fire engine. If they go WHAT!? smile sweetly and tell them it's your bullsh*t detector going off.:rotfl:

Oh for the love of God! Ten years ago that would have really upset me, now I'd have just told her to **** off at the top of my voice!

If you ever see her again be sure to "accidentally" mow her down with your trolley....

Don't worry about her any longer, and if you do come across her in the shop in the future, ignore her or tell a member of staff if she starts on you again.

Errrm....I do have to interject here to say that a "member of staff" may be one of those people that are "minimum wage = minimum effort".

Reason for saying that is that I've had an experience before now (in fairly recent history) where another "customer" was literally trying to steal my bag of shopping off me (maybe down to the fact there was visibly a Marks & Sparks bag in there - ie possible refund????). It was sitting there on the floor whilst I was investigating the goods in the shop and deciding exactly what to buy and another "customer" grabbed my bag and was clearly trying to steal it:eek:. Thankfully - I realised quite quickly and grabbed my bag myself and refused to let go and started "telling them off" clearly and pretty loudly. There was definitely an assistant nearby and I was shocked when I thought about this later and realised the assistant MUST have been aware of the attempted theft - but didnt come to my aid:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.

In hindsight - I would have literally screamed and, if necessary, and made it VERY plain to the assistant that they MUST come to my aid or lose their job (ie because I would have complained strongly that they hadnt done so).

Hindsight is a wonderful thing though:(.

The would-be thief got away with being unpunished for this.

The assistant got away with not coming to my aid.

    :mad::eek::mad::eek::mad::eek:

I'm still extremely annoyed with myself that I didnt think at the time to complain to the shop manager about the assistant not trying to protect me from this would-be thief. It comes second that I am annoyed with myself for not kicking said would-be thief's ankles - HARD! I would feel much better about this episode if I had landed the **** miscreant up in A & E for trying that one on me....

I think the rude woman would have "exploded" if she had been in a Lidl store in Scotland at the end of last year. They had various offers and discounts and there was hardly a customer in our local store who wasn't using a calculator to ensure they were not spending too much or too little to qualify for the discount or " free item". Why can't people be more tolerant and understanding. No one goes around advertising their financial situation on their T shirt. As Billy Connolly would say. " she is more to be pitied than scolded".

I worked in retail for many years - and was just thinking what I would have done in the SAs place. Sorry, but, possibly nothing more than alert security.
Store Assistants are not there to protect customers property - and it was silly of you to put your bag on the floor frankly.
If the store assistant HAD intervened and got badly hurt - the bosses wouldn't have cared less, as she wasn't protecting the stores property.
A complaint to the manager would have got you precisely nowhere as the assistant actually did nothing wrong. no she wouldn't have got sacked - not even reprimanded - nothing in her contract would have compelled her to intervene.

oops - sorry cheel - got distracted there!

you get these mad cows in stores - she was probably nasty to the staff too!
if I see someone with a calculator I think 'Good for them'! its best to have a good idea of what your shop will come to. OH and I usually have a guesstimate when unloading the trolley - dunno why he bothers as I always win, as like another posters mum I can add it up in my head as we go round! years of working in retail and hospitality way before the tills worked it out for you!

What a nasty old cow. Sorry you had a bad experience from her. You sound like you are working really hard to get yourself and your finances in a better place.
    You are FAB
Don't forget that - forget cows like her.

  • What a nasty woman. She must be so full of bitterness for it to just to spill out like that - I bet she upsets loads of people as she goes around. Don't let it get to you - what she comes out with is merely an over-spill from her inner world, and is not about you at all. x

Well done on the adding up, I do it all the time. I had some £4 off £40 coupons last month and I kept losing track. So I divided the trolley into four sections, so as soon as I reached £10 worth, it went into one corner, then I could forget that and focus on counting the next £10. Bit daft but it worked for me!

What a thoroughly nasty person, I think you are doing brilliantly and by adding up as you go along its far better than getting rushed into the checkout and finding that you have overspent.

I think you should congratulate yourself, as being a sweet grey haired old Granny;) I would have been so tempted to smile sweetly, and given her some advice from the Almighty

i.e. Go forth and multiply :D,

but then I'm sure your far more polite than I would have been in that situation :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Ignore her nasty comments and you carry on honey you are going great guns and don't let that poisonous mare upset you

Cheel - it has all been said, really. The important thing is you identified the problem lay with the other person, not you. There are unfortunately some people in this world who you could lock in a room by themselves, and they would still start an argument! Dignity, my dear, dignity!
