Hi all - did anyone go car booting? I was going to find one, but took the boys to Gullivers Kingdom instead. (Took my own pack-up, of course). I hope next Sunday is nice, I've decided to go to one - haven't been to one for ages and I want to go alone. Mr TM will waste money on complete grot if he comes along.0

Did any of you realise .... (I say this because I had a  moment a couple of years ago) .... that, local Auction Houses often sell "boxed lots" for as little as .... £2? (It's not all "Antiques") ... those job lots @ £2 are the same things that boot sellers fill their stalls with
HUGE potential profit margin!!

I went car booting and got a set of 3 lovely ceramic mixing bowls for 20p and two large boxes of mushrooms for a £1 a box. I dried some of the mushrooms and the rest have been sliced or chopped and frozen for future use.Enjoying an MSE OS life0

Buying the job lots at auctions for pennies is one of my all time fav things to do. You can get some good stuff in among the junk. My best "find" was a set of brass library lights which I got for a fiver (including markup). sold them at a car boot for quite a lot more. In my new basket: A slightly whiffy blanket; Racy’s 2nd favorite jumper; remains of a slipper; 2 sticks (1 chewed); bouncy ball collection (4); Racy’s iPod :shhh: and a large sock (found under Racy's bed)0 -
I haven't been to an auction for ages and had forgotten about the bargain box lots! My sister kitted out her house and her children's (and mine) for college from these boxed lots. You never knew what treasures these would yield - often crockery, linens, cutlery etcOur days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

This is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to September
The littlie starts schoo and I can visit the local auction house, unfortunately it only happens every couple of months so I'm looking around for another one that isn't too far away.

Never been to an auction, don't think I'd trust myself, too many antiques to tempt me! Hope the weather's better next weekend, we didn't bother going car booting due to a massive thunderstorm:eek: !
Feeling proud of myself as have managed to both upgrade & still save money on our car insurance renewal & get £50 of Rpoints thrown in too:D
Feeling less than happy as we think our cat has died, after being sick several times on sunday night he went out yesterday morning without eating & hasn't been seen since..........the prospects don't look good. (no sad face smiley?) Can I have a big decaffinated cup of tea & a hug please??Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

sorry to hear about your cat lillibet. fingers crossed for him.
I spent the weekend trying out mse recipes. thanks for all the tips - they were brilliant. I made 'everyday biscuits' first. I made enough to freeze half, cook a quarter and have the remaining quarter in the fridge. Yum. so much better than shop bought.
then I investigated porridge. I have now found a new favourite food, and have eaten it everyday for breakfast for the last 5 days now! it was Ticklemouse's technique I went with in the end, and with some microwave timing adjustments, I have it just perfect.
Then I sat down and meal planned for the next fortnight, went shopping and was amazed at the value I got. Just by planning leftovers etc, why I gave meal planning up last month I'll never know!
Lunch at work is a healthy cheese, cucumber and tomato roll with a low fat yoghart (all cost me pennies compared to £3 round the corner).
Please can I have a big slice of cake for my efforts? Lillibet and moggins - would you like to share it with me?r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
