I rarely fill our bin either unless I am having a big clear out and then I put the junk in the wheelie bin as well.
I buy as much fruit & veg loose, buy 6 pints of milk at a time from the supermarket (we go away alot so it's easier than having to cancel the milkman especially for trips when we end up coming back later than we originally planned) and we hardly ever use tinned or jarred things.
We have a fortnightly recycling collection (glass, cans & paper) but I only put that out once every 6-8 weeks as it isn't worth it any other time. Even then sometimes it's half a bag of cans, glass and a sack of paper.
Not got around to making my own compost yet. Any tips? Also could I use one of those posh chorome bins without the middle bit? (Got one out of a skip the other day thinking it still had the middle section, when I got it home it was actually an empty tin of paintso now I have the outside but no inside)

The recylcing bin man regularly leaves me little notes to tell me I've put the wrong thing in my bin!
You've put my flat to shame with how little rubbish you all produce - problem is I dont have any control over what my flat mate chucks away - although I am gaining ground, alot of my stuff gets DONT THROW AWAY written all over it as soon as it gets out of the shopping bag!
I am hopefully getting my compost bin up to the allotment this weekend
Does anyone know if I can put grass turf (very overgrown allotment) in it?
nb. I think I need a very large black coffee please! and some chocolate brownies wouldnt go amiss...I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!

Thanks for the cheese on taost offer Mrs MW, bet it was tastier than the Sainsburys sausage roll I've just had........before you all berate me for buying a sausage roll it was hot from the deli counter, we don't have a microwave at work so it's either Sainsburys deli, McD's or KFC for a hot lunch:rolleyes: unless I bring soup or similar which I get a bit fed up with if I have it every day.Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
We regularly used to have a full wheelie bin plus 2 or 3 binbags too. This week the bin is barely 3/4 full and that's after sorting out the playroom
Oops, meant to say that the little ones trip to the continence clinic cost me £15 this morningHad to go straight from there to Asda for an endless supply of George knickers. It's not going to save me any money either as we now have to store the pull-ups in the toilet and allow her to put one on whenever she wants a poo!

For 2 people we usually put out three quarters of a bag of rubbish every week. However, we do use a recycling box (bottles, cans, etc...) and have a compost bin in the garden. Its amazing how much rubbish some of the houses near us produce though.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

 It could be a good one to add to one of the organic food threads as well. The one where we have a pointer to the top ten organic foods to buy first. Now all I've got to do is find it...

Ooooooooo. This is the first chance I've had to pop in here - what a busy week it's been!!
I think I mentioned in a thread last week that I was going for a job interview (in the context that it was money creating rather than money saving) - I was offered the job today! woo-hoo!
It's my first decent sized payrise since I converted to MSE-ing, so I am going to put the extra money straight into my savings account - on the theory that I won't miss what I never had. We're planning a big trip to Australia next October/November (06), so it will become my Aussie fund.0 -
Well done Lucie, great idea about saving the extra money too.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

and well done for being so well disciplined and making plans to save the extra! Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
