I used the pound shop tests as i was averaging one a month for a year and could not afford £15 a go and my positive result still felt as good as a digital one. The only with them is that you have to pee in a cup and stick it in as opposed to peeing on a stick. My doctor said they were almost identical to the ones they use in the surgery. good luck

Noticed on Ebay last night that they have pregnancy tests and ovulation tests really cheap (about £5 for 30 ovulation tests & 10 ultra early pregnacy test).

Don't know if they're any good but I'm tempted to try at that price!

Just curious as to what peoples opinions are on the 3 for £1 hpt's at poundland?? Be good to know as I'll be testing tomorrow, fingers crossed for a BFP!

Iv'e not had hpt's from the poundshop but I buy mine from Savers for £1 each. I got a very good deal from a site ages ago and got 25 tests for under £5. They are just the same as the Savers ones.

    Good Luck!!

Edited to add~ Just found the site I bought my hpt's from. http://www.accessdiagnostics.co.uk/acatalog/Early_home_pregnancy_test_offer.html The link is for the tests I bought. I don't know if there are any cheaper tests on there so might be worth looking around the site.

  • I now have 3 children but took nearly 2 years to concieve my first child! I am absolubtely convinced that the more you worry about it the longer it takes. I was really stressed with my first and it was only when I got married and my mind was focussed on something else that it finally happened on our honeymoon! With the next two I was more relaxed and concieved straight away both times - I know it's easy to say but hard to do, but I think the best advice is to try and concentrate on something else. Good luck toyou all;)

I understand the height/weight ratio, however as long as you are the correct weight for your height it shouldn't matter how short you are.

Oh dear. Have I really failed to make it clear that I understand that?

  • Hi Everyone,

I just thought I'd share my TTC journey - in an attempt to give hope.

I started TTC a month after my wedding in 1999 (I was 22). In the next 12 months I gained 5 stone in weight for no reason. May 2000 I found a sympathetic GP and was diagnosed with PCOS - I have all the symptoms, no ovulation, excess hair, excess weight and an extremely irregular cycle - it was 2 years till it returned after coming off the BCP and only after surgery.

I had the following treatment - all on the NHS:

    3 x Clomid - with GP
Lap & Dye with Ovarian Drilling
    3 x Clomid
Metformin - including a diagnosis for Type 2 Diabetes
    2 x IUI
    1 x IVF - no fertilisation.

The above took place over an 8 year period (including a 2.5 year wait for IVF on the NHS).

I also discovered the GI diet and lost 2 stone :j:j in 2005/2006.

After the failed IVF the consultant suggested that I took a baby aspirin every day.

I did and got pregnant naturally 2 months later - didn't find out until I was 8 weeks thought I was messed up by the IVF drugs.

My miracle baby arrived safe and sound via the sunroof on the 14th April this year - she only kept us waiting 8 years.

I'm planning on TTC once she is 1 but I'm not holding my breath, I'm just pleased I managed at least one.

Sorry for the ramble but I just wanted to give some long termers some hope and prove the urban legend.

  • Awww MDW thats lovely to hear, really glad you've got a little one with all the heartbreak you've been through :)

Well, as some of you may know I asked about the poundland preg tests as I would be testing. Well I did test with these and came out negative, then after still not having my period, it being nearly 5 weeks since my last, I tested again this morning using a Tesco home preg test and it came out POSITIVE!

I kind of knew that I was as I had a feeling of fullness in my lower abdomen the last two weeks and sore boobs and also keep having odd dreams which happened in my last pregnancy (I have an 8 year old)!

Good luck and baby dust to those of you still ttc, may the force be with you x

  • Just reading this thread with interest. Hubby and I had been trying to concieve for the past 16months to no joy. Went to GP, sent me to the hospital for blood tests and to see if I was diabetic. Results came back. No diabetes BUT found out Im not ovulating at all, and said I probably never have been and its only cos we are trying now for a baby that we've found out (obviously). I asked him (the GP) how come I've been having my periods as normal, on time every month (I get awfully nasty sad emotional and a total !!!!! to live with about a week before actual period too) if Im not ovulating. He told me its possible to have a monthly cycle without ovulating. The conclusion as it stands is that he has referred me to see the Gynae/Fertility specialist at the local hospital and I am waiting for the appointment to come through.

Can someone advise me what to expect? Or what tests they may do? I find this quite daunting (but obviously something I want). I've never ever done one of those ovulation chart thingys either, saying that though, after this news, theres no point.

    CheekyLittleMonkey,

Sorry to hear your news. You may want to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. I have recently read this book and it does go into some detail about how you can have a monthly cycle without ovulating. It also has a section about tests and procedures etc. It may give you an idea of what is going on.

    Good luck with everything.
