For ADSL but BT Infinity is an FTTC product and there are no Sky street cabs - they just use the same Openreach last mile as all the other ISPs. They probably have their own backhaul from the exchange but that is irrelevant to the headline VDSL speed offered.

Doesn't make a difference this is finally a role out of the new packages BT Openreach have been preparing for the last few months. Details were on TalkBroadband it just looks like it's finally ready for deployment.

    Couldn't resist it.

    Around 9am today.

    http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/PerformanceTesterWS/diagnostics.do

Download speedhelp.jpgachieved during the test was - 46.25 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedshelp.jpgis 20 Mbps-38.67 Mbps .
    Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 38.67 Mbps

Upload speedhelp.jpg achieved during the test was - 2.96Mbps
    Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10 Mbps

Pathetic Upload, but 46.25Mbps Download! :T

Using Ethernet this time, whereas the previous result was from a laptop via Wi-Fi.

I wonder, can we prove there is a direct link between broadband speed and a person's happiness? :)

Some cabinets DO NOT SUPPORT IT, so no guarantees.

Not true, not sure where the advisor got that information from. It's available on all cabinets, regardless of whether they're ECI or Huawei.

Only if you're sad enough to test is every day, sometimes multiple times a day like some. It's like an obsession.

I NEVER test my speed unless I'm having problems doing something. As long as it works for what I doing, I don't really care how fast it is.

Just repeating what the Call Centre person said.

He did understand the new 52Mbps business when I explained what I wanted. He then passed me to what he calls "Customer Options Team".

No doubt the speed will settle down, I'm just keeping an eye on it during the transition period.

It's extremely unlikely to change from that. All that may change over time is crosstalk and congestion. It's strange that the test achieved higher than the supposed profile - I didn't think that was possible.

Do BT actually quote any upstream rate? Although the profile is 10Mbps there may well be an ISP imposed cap. It's more common for upstream to be restricted because they rarely advertise that and doing it protects their network from the morons who seed torrents at full tilt 24x7

BT do not restrict the upstream connection speed. If you're on Infinity 1 your line will sync at the best it can up to a max of 9999kbps. Infinity 2 increases that to 19999.

Very strange that the achieved upstream speed is so low then especially as it was significantly higher before the product change.

    I'm pretty much the same.
I have two houses at the moment one gets 40 meg Sky fibre the other gets 150 meg with Virgin - the performance for what I need it for (some down loading a bit of surfing and a small amount of uploads ) isn't even noticeable between the two services

Some people get obsessed with the numbers rather than focus on performance and like everything else in life that applies to -it isn't always for the best !!! ;)

(and don't even get me started about the people who believe testing wirelessly is an accurate indication of what BB speed they are receiving )
