BT Infinity 1 Up To 52Mb

Options
Lately, BT seems to make a big deal about Infinity 1 going Up to 52Mb.

It used to be:

Infinity 1 = Up to 38Mbps
Infinity 2 = Up to 76Mbps

Doing a speed test, I am getting 38Mbps, which is possibly a little bit faster than before.

Just wondering if a physical upgrade is required, on the HomeHub, or in the street cabinet, to get the new speed.

Try turning the router off for a few minutes.

It might reset the line so the other end can renegotiate the speed.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Restarted today. Will let it brew for a few days before speed testing.

I seem to remember getting 34 to 37 Mbps previously, so I'm probably already on the faster speed.

A few weeks ago Openreach announced a new 55/10 FTTC wholesale product. I'm guessing this is BT Retail using it.

You need to call up and recontract to get he new speeds.

When you do, an order is placed to have the cap that's applied at he cabinet raised from 40/10 to 55/10.

Do you need more speed though? Are you getting buffering issues or struggeling when multiple people are online? If not, there's no point.

Does anybody know if Sky intend to match this given they are selling a rebadged product?

    This.

The higher speeds are for new orders (new customers or existing customers recontracting). Existing customers won't get it automatically.

Like lee111s, you might not really need the extra speed. And not all lines will be able to get up to 52Mbps.

    What are you saying! :rotfl:

Of course I want the faster speed, if it costs the same.

Believe it or not, I just signed (well, said yes) with BT for another year, and paid Line Rental Saver, only a few days ago.

I'm not sure if you actually recontracted with BT for Infinity broadband - just paying Line Rental Saver shouldn't affect that - however, even if you have recently recontracted, I think you should be able to do so again, basically starting a new year's contract from now.

(I would however be tempted to leave it at least a week before trying to do so, if not actually waiting until you are in a new monthly billing cycle, lest BT's systems get their knickers in a twist!)

    Called BT today, around 5pm.

Got put through to "Customer Options Team", which turns out to be Retentions.

The new 55/10 profile only started a few days ago, and all new customers and renewals will be AUTOMATICALLY put on it, INCLUDING ME :D . Some cabinets DO NOT SUPPORT IT, so no guarantees.

First few days are for stabilisation, so no point in speed testing it to death.

    Using

    http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/

Download speedhelp.jpgachieved during the test was - 28.14 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedshelp.jpgis 20 Mbps-38.67 Mbps .
    Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 38.67 Mbps

Upload speedhelp.jpg achieved during the test was - 8.75Mbps
    Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10 Mbps

I think it's just 6pm congestion. 38.67Mbps feels like it will be the new speed. Not bad at all.
