IE has also stopped working on my Win 7 computer, it seems to have some sort of connection issue but "Fix connection issues" doesn't find a problem. I only use it when I'm accessing Sharepoint, as some functions don't work well (or at all) in other browsers. I've avoided updating to W10 on this computer as it's my work one (I have W10 on my personal laptop) and I don't want to risk down time if anything goes wrong, but I may have to if this fault carries on.0

I have always used IE (though have Crome and Firefox). I have started getting "no longer support" messages (though it still seems to work !
1.) How do I find out which version od IE I have ? ('properties' says - IE.Ink (??) and installed 23/2/08 (I have had computer a little longer than that (I think).
2. Which version of IE do I need now then, if current one is o/o/date. How to uninstall current one and download new version (from where) ?
3.) What is my current version of Windows ? (How to find out ?). Replace with ? (people seem to be wary of Windows 10).
Don't like to just give up and take it to the shop to do !
(just found... Windows Vista HP 32 bit - so this is it ? Windows 6 is Vista - yes
6 must be well out of date surely. if i dont want to risk 10, what then, and from where?
Any help please with these Q's. Obviously I am lost on this0 -
Open IE, click on Help, when drop down box ....erm.... drops down, click on About Internet Explorer. This will tell you the version
This has already been answered. It is support for IE6 that is stopping but IE6 should still work.
Current version of windows you've answered your own question.0 -
thanks, but really confused now.
I click on IE/about and it says IE9. Yet if I have Vista, that is IE 6???????
If it IS 9, why does it keep saying they will no longer support it ?0 -
Windows Vista is WINDOWS 6 ..
You have internet explorer 9
They are stopping supporting it because it is very old and built on old technology.
You have the "latest" IE that you can have on your version of windows (vista)
So , either get a new operating system , or a different browser (firefox)0 -
... and some people, including me, are not afraid of change, they simply don't want it because new isn't always better.
It is in this case.
I appreciate that it may not be to everyones taste .. And I respect your view as I know you are tech savvy having read and agreed with a lot of your posts ..
I was more meaning the general public who aren't so technically proficient and are happy that they know how to do what they need to do on their current system,
and are afraid of "having to learn it all again"..
They hear "Dave down the pub" repeating parrot fashion that windows 10 is aweful and this forms their views, compounded by what I said above about learning new stuff.
Lots of people ARE scared of change, especially anything pc related0 -

It's more a case of what with wives or husbands to sort out, children to deal with, school runs, dodgy gutters and washing machines to fix, elderly relatives in need of care, broadband not working, work problems, car playing up and the rest they simply do not want yet one more pile of aggravation.
They are not 'afraid', they simply do not have the time and additionally in many cases the interest to sit down and learn and experiment with it.
They regard a computer as a tool - switch it on, click some icons and get online banking - end of story.0 -
Google Chrome, 100%. It's quick and simple for browsing, emailing and has a huge selection of extensions (if you're planning to use it for work).
Microsoft, one of the biggest, richest companies in the world, seem to lack in updating explorer regularly, hence why so many people choose Chrome or Firefox.
But for me, Chrome!0 -
I was interested to stumble across diamond dave's IE problem. My IE suddenly stopped working earlier this month too - IE would attempt to launch, but immediately shut down.
After a considerable amount of Googling and fiddling, the problem seemed to be connected to my virus software: a free version of AVG.
I'd moved to AVG some months ago, after a paid version of Norton started crashing my W7 desktop.
After wasting time uninstalling and installing both IE and AVG, I gave up and tried IE11 and Avira. Touch wood, all is now well.0
