Tried installing explorer 11 and it says it can't install it as I have a newer version already installed.
I usually use Chrome but I need explorer for my First Direct banking plus programme. Have complained to FD plenty of times to get it working on Chrome or somewhere else but no luck.
Any suggestions to what I can try to get it working?
as a retail consumer you were on the phone to Microsoft today , what number did you ring?Save a Rachael

Ok now that I've seen other people have had problems with IE, I just thought it was me. Tried downloading ALL versions of IE but messages said couldn't download 11 as there was already a newer version installed! Anyway, bit the bullet and downloaded google chrome - much faster then IE anyway. Thanks for all replies.0

I'm usually a Chrome user, but several work sites (Santander and Nottingham) demand use of IE.
Last Thursday IE stopped opening on command.
My PC is Win 7 64 bit. Since then I have;-
run C Cleaner
run Spybot S&D
run AVG PC Tune Up
run AVG AV
installed all Windows updates, inc IE 11 upgrade
run Malwarebytes.
I've tried opening IE as administrator as well.

I was thinking the same thing - I very much doubt you were on the phone to Microsoft ..
If you were, they would have told you the registry keys you need to delete or rename to allow you to install ie11
Internet explorer - The best browser (for downloading other browsers) !!0 -
I have always used IE (though have Crome and Firefox). I have started getting "no longer support" messages (though it still seems to work !
1.) How do I find out which version od IE I have ? ('properties' says - IE.Ink (??) and installed 23/2/08 (I have had computer a little longer than that (I think).
2. Which version of IE do I need now then, if current one is o/o/date. How to uninstall current one and download new version (from where) ?
3.) What is my current version of Windows ? (How to find out ?). Replace with ? (people seem to be wary of Windows 10).
Don't like to just give up and take it to the shop to do !
(just found... Windows Vista HP 32 bit - so this is it ? Windows 6 is Vista - yes
6 must be well out of date surely. if i dont want to risk 10, what then, and from where0 -
Windows 10 is awesome .
I must have installed it 50+ times by now and haven't had 1 problem, either during install or during use.
Some people will always be afraid of change.
Windows 8 was an absolute abortion, Vista was just as bad when it was first released.
Windows 10 takes the best bits from 8 and 7 and keeps the familiar desktop interface
If you don't want to "risk" 10, then 7 would be the place to go, but you would have to buy that.
FYI internet explorer 9 was the last version supported on Vista
Download it here :- https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/internet-explorer-9-details.aspx0 -
I have found FireFox by far the best browser ever.0

... and some people, including me, are not afraid of change, they simply don't want it because new isn't always better.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0
