Cheap Phone/Broadband every year

Options
Just thought how I'd share the money I save every year by switching providers. When I moved to Devon. I started with TalkTalk, Then Sky and have now just switched to BT. Here's why:

When joining new providers as a new customer it is always cheaper, deals are always good. I also use cashback sites ALOT (I use Quidco and on may way to almost £1000 cashback over the last 5 years).
So, my sky broadband and talk contract is about to end, and the deals I joined with are about to end also.

Quidco shows BT offer highest cashback at present. BT also have a sale on (ends today).

With sky I will be paying £17.99 line rental, obligatory £4 calls (I do not ever use the landline), £7.50 Broadband. That's a total of £29.49 per month or £353.88 per year.

Instead, I use Quidco and by signing up with BT Broadband I'll get £125 cashback.
BT current offers allows unlimited broadband for £5 per month, with £17.99 line rental. Weekend calls are free (no need to add evening calls). Further, this gives free BT sport lite (which I can add to the sky+ box too if I decide to keep it). And they give a £50 credit card a reward for joining. So that's £22.99 per month, or £275.88 per year. Which, minus the £50 reward and the £125 cashback is equivalent to £100.88 per year or just £8.40 per month.

It's worth noting that cashback has tracked already with Quidco and I have never had problems with them before. Also, whenever I change over providers I again have never had problems. And contract length is just 12 months, so I'll do the same again next year.

Just thought I'd share, it seems criminal that so many people pay so much more than I've had to the last 3 years.

Your prices for Sky are incorrect.

The landline max price is £17.40 and you can opt to have no calls included (so zero charge). I'm not sure about the present broadband price, but until recently it was free with line rental.

I haggled my line rental to £8.20 (rose to £8.70),with free broadband and took the £8 calls package, as that suits us.

    Wow Really!?

and here is me thinking that the 9 million other members of MSE just came here to see what was on offer.

You have just described how this messed up broadband market works

The idiots pay the price advertised or put through their door on leaflets and everyone else has to chase down deals

What you failed to mention is how much less these deals are worth.

Personally I prefer a discount on the price over voucher or cashback that never comes or you have to fight tooth and nail for.

I missed the Sky offer of £5 for the year including line rental but I picked up the one at £116 for the year

It seems to me that the big providers are working in concert, they have lowered the discounts offered and take turned to do special offers for a limited number of customers just so the competiton in the market seems functional.

I also do not use the line, have my own VoIP numbers, no worries about being screwed for £8 for anytime, £4 for International or spending only an hour on a call.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

As per your comments How to get Broadband and cheap calls in 2 houses for less than £20/ month, you appear to think that everyone uses their landline (or whatever service is being discussed) in the same way you do. Have you considered, for example, that numbers registered to Voip Providers have an increasingly detrimental affect when applying for financial services and the like? This may not directly bother you but many people don't really want to have, for example, a search on their credit record but fail to get finance because you have urged them to get a Voip number which is considered less reliable than a landline. You may disagree with the logic but the trend is both real and growing. This is plainly only one example, there are also issued related to 999 calls, registration with phone directories, lack of trust by fast food establishments, taxi services, etc, etc.

Maybe you should caveat your suggestions so the less savvy are aware of the wider implications?

You seem to be attacking me wherever I post, I consider this harrassment and would ask you please to STOP before I involve moderators.

Getting back on point of this thread as a response to this page

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband

Am I losing it or is the headline deal not the cheapest?
    Cheap Broadband Deals

    B'band & line rent £276 over 12 months, get £100 voucher

    £276-£100=£176
    £198-£75=£123 --- CHEAPEST
    £186

Has MSE gone the way of Uswitch and some other sites where they do not always quote the cheapest deal first?

    Unlimited broadband & line rental

    That's a bit strong, isn't it?

I try to be as constructive as I can and I'm plainly happy for you to involve anyone you see fit. I think if I were to follow you around and attack you, which I am clearly not, then I'd probably focus on something personal like your poor diction and spelling (which I would plainly never do as it would be churlish and quite unlike me) but instead, I try to make constructive points, which may or may not differ from those you are making. I don't see any of your statements, that disagree with mine in part or whole, as personal attacks on me and would advise you to do the same.

Don't know about egg query I will have to ask my Grandmother, it will take some time as I will need an Ouija board.

So getting back on topic, Cheap Broadband...

This site was bought by MoneySupermarket for £90m and it seemed it was business as usual.

Yet that headline deal I referred to above is £60 MORE a year than I found it on MoneySupermarket, where they do the same deal but no £5 a month charge.

    http://www.moneysupermarket.com/broadband/

Both sites owned by same company, both sites get affiliate commissions, so it really means you can't trust this site to give you best deal. Add to that the fact that this is listed as the headline deal at http://!!!!!!/CHEAPBB

It seems that you really have to watch what you trust and believe to be the best deals.

The site is quite open about the use of affiliated links to offers , they are marked with a *

Martins quite clear that this does not affect articles or offers on here , if you think otherwise then post on site feedback where the forum team will see it
