I did laugh at that.

I think all you don't get one thing in supermarkets and shopping.
There is always a permitted margin of a % of waste which is costed into the headline price.
A supermarket is like a bookie, they are always on the winning side.
The only reason you find yellow sticker stuff in supermarkets, is the section where the reduction is, is trying to claw back some of the margin they are going to lose when they toss it.The more I live, the more I learn.

It takes me ages to get all the seeds out of a pomegranate in Tesco's before buying it!0

When I used to live on my own I did not snap off the stalk but I remember taking a couple of "branches" off a larger broccoli as a whole one was just too much for one person.0

When I lived in New Zealand, the fruit and veg aisles in most supermarkets had a bin specifically for the outer leaves of lettuce, unwanted stalks etc. and it was completely acceptable to remove these before buying. I'm not a fan of wastage though, so often used to worry about what happened to all these unloved bits of vegetables that had been cast aside...in my mind they were being collected together specifically maybe to feed a happy supermarket pig that lived out the back?! :rotfl:
Personally I buy my broccoli in Aldi, shrink-wrapped and pre-priced so not a dilemma, and we eat it stalk and all!0 -
I do it too and with leeks also!!0

Yes it is perfectly OK to snap off the stalk, some supermarkets have little saws to do just that.
You wouldn't buy the branch an apple was on would you?0 -
It's not theft because you aren't taking the stalk for free, you're leaving it the shop and paying for what you took!
There are lots of foods that are sold with inedible parts e.g. oranges, bananas, nuts... why would broccoli be an exception0 -

Theft is theft. This series is trolling of the lowest order. "Hey, you hate/love supermarkets - should I steal from them?" is not a dilemma.
Stealing saves money. Gosh.0
