See that's one of the unknowns, I have no idea. I've only ever been off contraception once in my life and it was all over the place. I'm tempted to let the first month or two go by and if nothing then track. I just don't want to become obsessive over it (I have a massive tendency to obsess with things, so can pretty much guarantee this would be something I would do).

    Hi April :)
I would recommend having a couple of cycles at least before trying any tracking, especially if you think you would become obsessed with it. Although it has plenty of stresses TTC is meant to be the fun and relaxed part (for obvious reasons :p) haha! If after a couple of cycles you decide to start tracking I would suggest using cheap OPK's at first and then as cats has said you could always then move on to the clear blue ones. Depends to a point on how much you are able/willing to spend. I would suggest maybe getting a tracker app actually, on your phone and noting different symptoms down through the month as I have found that quite helpful (although take the predicted fertile window with a pinch of salt at first). I use Mydays which seems pretty accurate, but Ovia has always been slightly out for me.

  • Welcome to the thread April! Like the others, would say don't do any serious tracking for the first few cycles, but it might be useful to track symptoms and cycle lengths using something like Ovia or P-tracker (I've been using P tracker for longer, and it's always been more accurate!). I've used the CB OPK this month for the first time (4th month of TTC) to confirm fertile period, but it's a very expensive thing to do every month!

Thanks Guys! I'll download an app and go from there for the first wee while :) see how that works out for me.

Firebird - I have noticed how expensive they are when I've been noseying online etc. Don't think its something I would want to buy every month if I can get away with it

I think I'll squeeze 3 months out of 2 sets, if my cycle carries on as it has, but still expensive! Anyway, you can make those decisions as and when you feel it's necessary (hopefully it won't come to that!).

Hi April welcome to the thread. I'm another one that found temping & opks stressful, but using an app & tracking your natural fertility signs is prob a good place to start. I tried ovia, glow & fertility friend, but found ovia worked best for me. It's worth trying a few to find which you suits you best, everyone is different.

I'm feeling pretty awful today, PMS is rearing it's head again this month  In some ways I just wish AF would hurry up & put in an appearance to get it over & done with.

    Hope everyone is doing OK.

Stick it out New! Can you find something else to do to take your mind off it? I tried meditation last night which worked brilliantly...

Just popping on to say that I agree with the others April- hold off with proper ov watching until you start to get to know your cycles.

I'm now 34 weeks pregnant but it took us over two years off trying to finally get our sticky bro as I have pcos and cycles in the 2 year period ranged from about 42 days to 170!! I didn't use any apps as I think they would have confused me even more as my cycles were so irregular. After probably 6 months of trying I did start to use opks, but I just used the cheapy ones off Amazon and I found most cycles that I used these they did give me an idea of if and when I ovulated that cycle.

My advice, as much as possible is to just see how things go, maybe stick to just one form of tracking(an app, opks, temping) because the more different methods you use the more potential there is to 1) get confused if they don't all line up and agree with each other and 2) it's easier to start obsessing when you use lots of different tracking methods.
