They're pointless, they're no good as a 4x4, they're top heavy and handle like a bag of spanners, they have little/no boot space and etc etc etc etc.

Have you ever used a Jimny off-road? They are superb.

I can't comment on the other cars but I have experience of the Jimny both on and off-road. In my opinion, they are good fun cars but horrible for long distances. Motorways are particularly hellish.

Fine as a local runabout and off-road, but that is all.

    LMAO
You've never been offroad in a Jimny have you?

They are very capable little 4x4s.

    juke too technical
    jimmny so last year
duster i likes but it does look a bit cheap in the build like plastic coated sill protectors

get it with the 1.5 dci

Plastic sill protectors will hide the rust from the MOT man :)

Is it just me that thinks the JUKE is silly? Its a MICRA.... with big wheels.

The Lake District has what to do with these particular cars?

The lake district does have tarmac roads, I don't know if you realise this.

I did the peak district a few years ago in my Vectra on the way back from York, it was snowing.

The Suzuki Jimny is no good as an off road vehicle?

    In who's opinion?

    Yours?

And the Duster is also a half decent off reader of you get it with 4wd.

I agree that none of these cars I needed particularly for the Lake District, my sister goes most years in a Ford Galaxy, before that they went for years in a Ford Galaxy and prior to that a Seat Alhambra.

I suspect any MPV or estate would do the job.

If you want a car like a Juke, Duster or Captur then test drive them and get the one you like best.

The Jimny is probably only any good if you actually want to off road properly as its not particularly good on the road, more of a rival for a Diahatsu Sportrak.

The only Duster's that rusted where made in India due to localised build quality issues.

RHD Dusters are now made in Romania apparently

Have seen loads of Dusters in Morocco and Ghana and not one has been rusty, abused and hammered yes, rusty? No.

You can live your live regurgitating internet opinions based on a tiny minority of people on the Dacia Duster forum.

I have seen the kind of rust they were moaning about in a 2 year old Mercedes Sprinter.

I was looking at a Juke but the reviews were universally awful; it's too compromised and terrible at everything (though reliability isn't bad). I'd probably go for the Duster - it's a bit basic, but seems pretty practical and comfortable. The white paint is particularly flimsy though, apparently.

The issue with white Dusters rusting was due to production issues in India, no longer relatively as UK Dusters are made in same factory as LHD Dusters.
  • Having owned a Qashqai for 3 years and 38,000 miles that would be my recommendation, however a late one may be out of budget, IMHO the Juke is too small, pretty much Micra sized inside. Ignore all the dinosaurs on here who are usually getting their information from some bloke down the pub, these small SUVs offer car like economy whilst giving you a bit more ground clearance and a nicer driving position. The ground clearance was important to me as I often had to use rough farm tracks, which were a real struggle in my previous car, a Vectra C, the Qashqai took them in it's stride. Yes ok, they don't handle like a modern low to the ground saloon or Hatchback but not everyone feels the need to be a pretend racing driver every time the see a bend.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

Ignore Qashqui owners who infer that anybody that offers a different opinion than the current fashion of "let's buy a small SUV mantra" is a dinosaur that lives in a pub.

The last time I was in a Pub for a drink was when I was in my 20's.

Awesome :) Do you know when production moved over? The rust issues were the main thing putting me off from getting one (4x4 diesel in blue).
  • Whether you cover the sort of motoring mileage and use to keep a modern Diesel happy is another question entirely, but from a purely practical point of view you could do far worse than try a Duster.

What the badge lacks (for those who care about such things, some do) it makes up for by not being quite as odd looking (again for those who care) as the Juke, what Duster residuals will be like after 5 or more years is still unsure, possibly a pleasant surprise there with not so much to go wrong.

As above, i'd buy a used Forester.
