This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone.

I arrived back in Glasgow on time last night and was back at my mum's place by 8.30pm. How lovely to see it was still light. Last night I spent a long time telling mum all about events in Melbourne, and especially the funeral. She, of course, has hundreds of questions. Eventually I had to go to bed, slept deeply and now wide awake. I'll get back into a proper sleep pattern soon.

The coolness of an early spring evening was very welcome, the heat of Dubai was stifling and the air in planes dries the air passages!

There's shopping to be done on the way home though I'm not sure if I'm going today or tomorrow. I'm keen to go today but will see how mum is.

I'll catch up later. Hope everyone is doing well and has a good Sunday.

Its my last day here today, I have my best friend here too so we will find something to do, maybe visit Utrecht. Our flights aren't until 9pm ish so the whole day.

DS2 is going to London later for an exam so we will probably have breakfast out.

Hope you are all well, HH sounds like you had a good time. Take care. Xxx

Morning all. Welcome home GERS, it's lovely to have you back safely. I hope you are all enjoying the glorious start we are, and it's forecast to last all day. Lovely!

We plan on going over to the caravan this afternoon, to swap over with DD and the 3 DGDs. They are back at school tomorrow. We are not needed for sleepover and subsequent school run till Thursday so we will stay till then. This nice weather is not forecast to last till then, sadly. I'm not sure how the BSD will stand up to our 5 days away. I take an assortment of food with us but if we set off for the day we eat out. I'll do my best to stick to it! Weighday will have to be postponed to Friday!

As is the case every time DD stays there, there are problems to sort! The water pump is playing up and signal on the small inside tv has disappeared! The big tv in the awning is ok but it's a bit cold for sitting in awnings just yet!!

No WIFI on site (small old fashioned woodland site) so lappy doesn't go with me, I'll try and keep up to date with reading on my phone but it's hard work trying to post on it with my eyes! See you all Thursday and hope you have a nice week. Take care and (((HUGS))) to all in need. Hope MR CANDLELIGHT is continuing to improve and ISLANDMAID is soon painfree xx

Morning all, good to know you are safely landed Gers.
The sun is out and my washing will be soon.
I came down at 5, realised that I had been woken by being too warm and also had wriggled about in the bed to the point where the duvet was tangled round me, in a sort of strangulating way, plus OH snoring in manner of walrus and realised that someone had left the heating on - we may need a little warmth in the evening but not while we are asleep. Abd it wasnt me because i went to bed with s book st 9.30. Also back door not locked. Not best pleased, but at least we have not been burgled. Rant over.
I have some office work to do today and must do some ironing, then Sunday dinner to cook this evening.
Hope everyone has a good day
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning all,

Good to see you safely back Gers from what must have been a traumatic time for you all. You will be glad to sleep in your own bed eventually.

Camelot enjoy your last day and a safe journey home.

TA the Easter holiday seems to have lasted longer than usual, but to be honest at the moment I am hard pushed to tell you what day of the week it is.

I arranged for our other 2 grandchildren to come and see Himself yesterday as a surprise. I did warn them that he didn't look well but he was OK. They ar 16 and 18 so old enough. They were wonderful with him, and he was a little emotional. They bought him new pyjamas and tartan slippers, so DGD1 who lives with us told him he would have a fight on his hands because we both love tartan.

Up till Friday he had lost 2 and a half stone in fluid, this will have slowed down over the weekend because he is just on diuretic tablets not the intravenous pump, we are back at the hospital tomorrow. His legs are a bit of a mess because he has cellulitis but we will get there eventually.

Islandmaid you poor thing, the pain sounds horrendous, I hope it is easing a little.

My sister and brother in law are coming to see us this afternoon, it will be good for him to have another man to talk to. He is surrounded by women, even the cat.

It looks as though we have had a frost overnight but hopefully it will be a nice day

Thank you all for your kind thoughts

    Morning everyone,

Beautiful morning here, wall to wall blue sky and sunny but still cold, someone else here who woke up too warm after the heating got turned up last night!

Gers glad to read you are home, suspect the next few days you will be really tired so take care.
Islandmaid hope you are a bit more comfortable today.
    TA enjoy your time away
Candlelight good to read that MrC is still going in the right direction and enjoyed his visitors. Another one here who loves tartan, at the moment it's confined to our table runner and placemats but am working on it :)

Had a lovely relaxing day yesterday but feel need to do stuff today so will potter round in the garden and then take Bill for a walk in hand down the lane, give him a change of scenery.
I finished another one of my favourite books last night, Assasins Quest by Robin Hobb. I love her style of writing and have totally immersed myself in the "world" she has created. DOH sometimes moans that I don't hear him when he speaks but am concentrating too much on being wit linked to my wolf :rotfl:
Of course there is the Archers omnibus to listen too as well, must admit tuned into last Sunday's episode so know what happened but will catch up on the rest of the week.

Have a good day all, take care folks x

Oh the joys of sleeping in a proper bed and with real bedding.

Gers, glad you are home safe, LW, have fun with your lodgers, how are you enjoying having Mr LW there full time? Hugs to Candlelight, Island Maid, Hilstep and anyone else in need.

I washed 3 loads yesterday but it was too wet to hang it out so I was up bright and early this morning and hung it all on the line and I have some on the maiden and another load chugging away.

The fish have been fed, the weekly food seems to have worked ok whist we were away as they were all ok when we got home.

Hubby and I have a cuppa, I'm going to clean out the fridge and steam the downstairs floors today.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Happy Birthday to those with a birthday x

Bright blue sky and sunshine to start the day here, but we've had a sharp frost overnight too, hoping I've not lost my tomato plants in the greenhouse - they are all protected by lots fleece so hoping they're ok.
Not sure what the forecast is for later.

Dinner last night was surf and turf (aka steak and salmon), chips/jacket potato, peas, mushrooms and HM coleslaw, was delicious and enjoyed by us all, but obviously not a cheap meal, but I had everything in the freezer, and the salmon were portions I'd cut and frozen when whole salmon was on special offer, I bought a whole salmon that I then cut into portions for just over £9 - I've bought a portion of side enough to feed 2/3 people that's cost £8 in the past, so a whole salmon for £9 ish was very good, loads still in the freezer too. Lunch today will be roast pork, roasties, mash, carrots, pan fried cabbage with bacon, broc, peas, yorkshires, and gravy.

On the way home from town yesterday I stopped off at the new village bakery, and I bought DH, myself and DS2 a cream cake each, and a bread baton (similar to a baguette but not as big and normal bread not baguette type) - we had pizza and bread baton with pate for lunch. DS1 arrived home 11.30am ish, after his night out - he ate lunch but looked really tired, he ended up having a sleep yesterday afternoon, I don't think it was a hangover particularly, as he said he'd enjoyed an unlimited full breakfast of scrambled egg, bacon, sausages, hash browns, beans, mushrooms, toast and a mug of tea, he of course then ate lunch with us and dinner. He said he enjoyed it and the hotel was in central for where they wanted to be.

Today will be spent prepping lunch, prepping pack ups, then chilling. Disappointed with my choices for the Grand National - none of my choices came anywhere but pleased that all horses came home, but there's certainly some injured jockeys as some got a bit trampled when they fell, hoping they are all in recovery. I've never watched before where it's been such hard work for the horses and the jockey's - both looked physically exhausted at the end, the ground was just so sodden and heavy, they had rain all night on Friday night and again Saturday morning, - the land wasn't particularly dry before that either as that part of the country has just had so much rain. Although my horses didn't come anywhere was so pleased for the jockey and owner, jockey's first ride at the National and owner's son passed away last year in a freak accident in South America - owner won at the Gold cup and now the National since then, think maybe his son is looking down on his dad and the business!

    Have peaceful Sundays' everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

What went wrong with the thread title (Sunday 11th ????)

Just asking, as today is my birthday, and I know I was not born on the 11th!

Opened lovely gift from OH, chunky Swarovski necklace. Chinese takeaway for dinner later, give me a break from cooking.
