Are you trying to tell me that a bag on Ryanair and a 90 minute flight is too much hassle to save £458? If your answer is yes then I ask why you are on a moneysaving site at all.

I'm with Mr W on this

    Sometimes Moneysaving involves effort;)

    BTW
I'm flying DUB-LAS about the same time as the op and it's £1200 Business class (BA and then Virgin) all the way.

IIRC when I booked it the economy price was about £350 each from Dublin and about £800 from LGW direct.
  • wow so much information, thank you! I'll look through it all, I'm sure I'll be able to find something that's much more in line with what I can afford. You've already managed to find me cheaper flights that I was finding. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on those Thomas Cook ones as they were coming in at £570 per person.... but that Oslo thing is hard to beat. I'll look into all of these suggestions. Thank you all so much!! (how do you even think to fly to Oslo first?? lol)

See? I said you were all amazing lol.
  • ooh... other question. You know when you do comparisons on sites like momondo and it says the booking site offering the tickets is FareGeek, Travel2Be etc... is it safe to book through those? I only had a quick look for one of them (faregeek) and saw horror stories about people not having their tickets booked and stuff, and people saying they'd only ever book direct. Although that does seem wayyy more expensive.

Is it like car booking? I've had trouble booking through comparison sites where they tried to shaft us and take hundreds extra, so now we just go through Budget directly. Is it comparable to that?

    Dates are wrong.
    Monday 22nd August

Though changing to the correct date doesn't impact on the price.
I don't think that itinerary is particularly suitable for a 50th birthday. I think she might think that he's a bit of a cheapskate....and they certainly won't be disembarking in London if they have luggage in the hold.

Dates were moved to accommodate the flight to Oslo, a non issue since the OP was flexible.

Check the bags as far as LHR (done this many times).

Cheapskate is subjective. I'd call it saving money and if his wife is anything like mine she'll love the sense of adventure and extra money to spend on a hotel/shopping etc.

Not for everyone I agree, but certainly not something to be dismissed due to 'hassle'.

In any case, I was pointing out where money on flights can be saved, not really suggesting any particular itinerary.

Not sure why you quoted me:cool:

However my trip is for Mrs B's 60th :D and she's quite happy to be adventurous if it means Business class flights for less than economy prices;)

And there is no "certainty" they won't be able to get off at London with baggage, though not changing airports nor having an overnight stop would make things easier.

Book with airline if possible. Don't rush in. Post deal here if unsure.

Booking with Virgin comes in at £640

Not disagreeing with the money saving method. I do it often. Flying to Peru for £200 later in the year. Thailand for the same. Just don't think this itinerary works. As aforementioned, airlines can and do refuse to short check' bags. Another not welcome addition to a birthday trip.
I don't understand how moving the date from the 22nd to the 27th helps with the overnight in Oslo. Airport hotel in Oslo(Radisson Blu) cost me over £100.

I'm not sure as to why I quoted you either :)

In addition, if you intend to drive, perhaps you shouldn't limit yourself to flying in and out of LAX.
We flew in to SFO and out of SNA. That way, no need to backtrack to SFO if doing the PCH drive.
Let's hope that she doesn't peruse this website. :)
