When I started working for a bank in the late 80's, we were trained to put all the notes the correct way round. There were lots of us cashiers and when we got a spare 5mins, we would sort the notes.
By the time I left a few years back, staff cuts had happened and the number of cashiers cut to the bone, you simply didn't have time to do it!

Bank Cashiers.
Why, why , why, when you are handing out money, why don't you ensure that the notes all face the same way?
Took out a cash sum today. Queen Elizabeth was all over the place when I counted the money. Couldn't do anything with it until I straightened it all out.0 -
As long as they are all on strict order of serial number, does it really matter what way up the notes are?0

People complain when they don't get their money, People complain when they do get it. NO pleasing some people. Does it matter what way the notes are. Here in Scotland we get a choice of heads. Not just one

Back in the day when I was a cashier, I'd make up my bundles of notes with the heads all facing the right way.
Throughout the day, I'd be making up more bundles, whenever I had the time, again with all the heads facing the same way.
Sometimes, when it was really busy I wouldn't have time, so notes could sometimes be paid out in the same order as they went into my till.
So, if anybody is to blame, it was the previous customers not sorting the notes!Early retired - 18th December 2014

It's actually easier to spot forgeries if the notes are all the same way round.0
