You are of course right - people can and do move on leaving 'issues' with an address.
Landlords see this all the time with certain tenants leaving with a string of CCJ's against them and Debt Collectors on the door chasing them for years for outstanding debts etc.
As with all this sort of thing, you need to use the information in context and in conjunction with other information to build a picture - and not just charge round to a property and put the windows in without asking any further questions.
This I can confirm through my own painful, long winded and very expensive experience.
My tenant took out a wonga load for £5000, I only found out after he had been evicted by bailiffs. So I had to explain to wonga it wasn't me, tenant gave all my details correct, except my DOB, so wonga believed me and were left to chase the £5000.
In the tenancy agreement, he was allocated all water costs, so in 2010 he change the water bill from his name into mine, then didn't bother to pay it, so I was left with £1600 in unpaid bill.
Again on the phone explaining to the water company that they should have verified the name change before proceeding, they said they just took his work for it....!
With a water bill in my name, this guy is 1/2 way to identity theft !!!!!
All in I ended up £2000 out of pocked from rent arrears, £3000 spent on legal and court fee's, and another £7000 to bring the ruined flat back up to standard.:mad:Back to square one, no apg, no comment.0 -
You're right tweets. We install Smart Meters for free but I think bubbs might be talking about standing charges. These are daily amounts per meter to cover things like maintenance, readings, keeping properties connected to the networks, transporting the electricity and gas etc. With us, as you've a Monthly Direct Debit, your daily standing charges will be bit lower.
Glad you're happy with us tweets and benefit from a bit of a rebate at the annual payment review.Have I mentioned an online tool called the 'Direct Debit Manager?' If you've registered with our website, this lets you change the payments. Comes in handy should circumstances change. Provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings.
Sorry if I've banged on about this before tweets.Have a good day.

Good Afternoon Malc
I have had a look at my bill for bubbs and don't understand what the standing charge isBut I do know I get a discount £6-48 on my bill for having both gas and electric with you
I pay a bit more monthly so I know I can have my gas on and be warm :j
Yes I know about the 'Direct Debit Manager' I have had a play on it :rotfl:
