  • Hi
I'm a bit surprised by this, from the t&cs
    • You need to allow up to 6 days for cheques to clear and if you choose to make payments to your Instant Access Savings account by Direct Debit these can take up to three weeks to set up, so it's better to apply early.
Do I assume they mean processing the initial direct debit setup, rather than a 3wk turnaround to get money transferred.

Reason is - I'm thinking of opening it with £1 this week, then transferring the money in around 25th Oct......for a week..... except that this bit gave me pause for thought.

I applied on 14th of October, in time for their promotion. However, the welcome pack with account details has only arrived this morning 30th of October.

What took them so long to setup my account? and how am I supposed to have the funds in and clear by tomorrow 31st of October? Unless you put in cash but I do not fancy carrying large amount of cash around. So I sent off a cheque today.

Tesco Finance verbally agreed I should be entitled to get the club card points as the delay was not due to my fault. I will have to wait and see if the points appear on my club card account. Anyway, their saving rate is very poor, I would not have opened account with them if it was not for the promotion. Definitely will not leave the funds there for long.

RE: the offer in today's email, (open Tesco savings account by 2 april 2008 to get bonus clubcard points) I contacted Tesco and they told me that if I apply online today, it would still normally take about 10 business days for the account to be opened, so I don't think it is worth bothering with.

Wish i had known about this sooner!

I still have my instant access saver from the last points promotion, but I notice Tesco now have a new Internet Saver. I assume opening one of the new accounts would still make me eligible for the points? I can't find any T&Cs for the offer - is there anything suggesting existing customers are excluded?

[Just tried to apply online, got " Savings Account Applications are currently unavailable. Please try again later." Nice one Tesco ]

  • Hi all

I've cheked with Tesco how long it takes to open the account and have been told that although it can take up to 10 days it's usually much quicker than this (as long as there are no hold ups).

Also the offer has been extended from the 2 April 08 to the 30 April 08 so there is now plenty of time to get an account open :)

  • Hi,

Is there anything stopping me opening both the Internet Saver Account and the Instant Access Savings account and deposit £5000 into each account and earn 1500 points for each. Do you think i would be eligible for the clubcard points for both accounts opened?

    Neil, eager Moneysaver, earner!! :D

That's good. It's taken a week for my forms to come through the post.

Saw this on last weeks email and though I'd go for it (thought it would be cutting it tight but worth a try)

Anyway... Has anyone else noticed how needlessly difficult they make it?

For instance you can set up a direct debit online when applying BUT ONLY if it is from a Tesco Finance account. (or else you get "That isn't a valid Tesco Finance Sort Code")

So they send you the forms and want the initial funding by cheque drawn on my own account - erm welcome to the 21st century, I use internet banking and don't have a cheque book!!! (besides the fact that most places don't accept them any more - shouldn't some alarm bells be ringing with the person that devised this application process?)

So it falls down on the funding requirements, but what about other ID requirements?

Current Acount statement - what's that? oh they don't accept internet banking stataments... hmmmm

payslip - unfortunately my employer is living in the 21st century also and I get that electronically via our company intranet.

Letters from HMRC or NI - have been working 12 years and only ever had 1, but it was more than 12 months ago so doesn't count.

Benefits - don't claim any so don't have any letters

Medical card - only for under 20's so not eleigble

Birth Cert. - again for the under 20's only

Anyway, gave them a call, spoke to a very helpful scottish bloke who said, "sorry, we know it's useless, we've had loads of complaints about the application process"

He couldn't help but would "pass your comments up to my manager"

 - get with the 21st century Tesco!!!
    Rant over

    ID requirements?
Sorry this doesn't help you mute_posting, but Tesco didn't ask me for anything to confirm ID.

I applied over a week ago, but the paperwork didn't arrive in time to get it back to them for the 2nd. So I too called. Yes I was told that the offer had been extended, but the guy said "as long as you applied in time, you're okay". So I'm not sure if you apply now that you'll still get the points? Tesco website still says that the offer ends 2nd April.

    Hi Moorhen

The ID stuff wasn't mentioned on the online application (that I remember anyway!)

I twas in the letter they sent to sign and send back to complete the application "process" (which incidentally arrived on 1st April)

Still no point in me applying becasue unless they enter the 21st century I'm still gonna fall at the first hurdle of funding the account using a cheque drawn on my own current account!

2008 and most businesses have said "we don't accept cheques anymore" yet Tesc are still relying on this quaint antiquated system to identify people! If it wasn't so pathetic you'd cry lol

They could do a indentity check online like a number of other companies have done over the past 12 months for me (BT for phoneline, Ikea for 0% finance, M&S for 0% finance, halifax for 0% CC)
