Has anyone recently opened one of these:

Although it can be managed online, you have to open it via an appointment with a Santander [STRIKE]salesman[/STRIKE] representative in branch.
Can I expect a smooth 10 minute conversation or a hard sell on mortgages, life insurance and hair-loss remedy?

Current customers can call and have it opened rather than a branch.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
It took 12 minutes in branch when I did it.
No effort to sell me anything.0 -

Santander have improved then, when I was on my first short ESA Support Group burst they were trying to sell anything and everything?
Lack of training I thinks.

I suspect it depends what branch and who you see. I cannot comment on Santander but I have had dealings with reps from other banks who have been appalling (a few years back) however I have had some good experiences too.0 -
I will of course report back on my meeting and if I have any snake oil to hawk on ebay. Thanks for the replies.0

I opened mine in branch on Friday 18 March. Only downside was that I couldn't phone the branch to make an appointment in advance, as I would have done if I could have. I called in at the branch on Tuesday 15 March, hoping that I could see someone there and then but nobody was available and the first available appointment was the Friday, which meant another trip.
The representative I saw was very efficient, the whole process took about 10 minutes. No attempt was made to sell me anything else. He said that he expected the Regular Saver to be available to open online in a week or two. IT issues were the reason for the delay, he thought.0 -

Opened one a couple of weeks ago over the phone. It took about 10 minutes while I was getting ready for work. No pushy sales tactics or anything like that, just simple taking some details, run through T&Cs and that was it.0

Opened one mid-March by phone. It took about 15 minutes, much of it on hold. I setup a standing order online to pay in £200 on the 1st of each month starting April. I then realised I was allowed to pay in for March as well, so setup a one-shot standing order for about the 18th of March.0
