Bank who don't process Monday debits over weekend??

I'm finally fed up with the situation with Clydesdale Bank, and I know they're not the only bank who do this.

Second weekend in a row where I've not been able to access money at the weekend because a direct debit payment due to come out on Monday has been processed as pending already.

What I want to know is, are there any banks out there who don't pre-position transactions at the weekend?

    Halifax don't do this.

But in fairness they also allow you to access credits that are due to be paid in on Monday on the weekend before.
    Can't have it both ways.

Budget better, the direct debits need paying and money needs to be set aside for them.
Have two accounts one which you put money in as and when your bills are paid and then the other for ad-hoc/everyday usage so you can withdraw it at your leisure.
Failing that, cancel your direct debits and pay your bills manually yourself as and when you can.

Lloyds, Barclays and The Co-Op don't. And as has been mentioned I have never known Halifax to either. I have a TSB Current Account Plus and I don't think they do either (not 100% sure on that though).

But I have just opened a Yorkshire Bank Current Account Direct so presume it will be the same as Clydesdale so thanks for the heads up!

Do you really want to access money on the weekend and have the DD bounce on Monday morning?

Even with banks that do not process Monday's transactions over the weekend, your DD will be processed (and possibly rejected) late Sunday night or in the early hours of Monday morning which will be several hours before you can put additional funds in, to balance your account.

I agree that you need to consider the money due to got out on Monday as already committed/spent and therefore not available for use for any other purpose.

Don't they re-try Direct Debits if there are funds paid in during the day?

Halifax do till 3pm then they fail them and returned DD will appear on your statement.

Can you clarify this with an example? If I transfer money by FP into an account on a Friday night or Saturday morning, the money isn't due to be credited, it IS in my bank account. Genuinely cannot think of the circumstances where this would apply. If your work is due to pay you on a Monday, the money is surely not available on Saturday with Clydesdale? I know each of the banks has slightly different times for when these things are handled, but hours at most, not days.

My TSB C+ debit card had transactions on the 1st debit on the 1st dated as the 4th! Never saw that before...

Thanks for the Halifax tip, I just needed easy access to the name of banks who are more sensible from my perspective.

My budgeting is exact, which is why I don't expect my money to go out early. I'm paid weekly, on a Sunday, in cash. I can be knocking on the bank door at 9am on Monday with cash in my sticky paw to cover my direct debit when it is due to come out that day, and not before. In the meantime, I can't access my own money over the weekend and it's a point of principal now.

IMO banks either need to cease this practice or just start banking 7 days a week. At least then we'd all know where we stand. Grump!
