Please Help Failed MOT

Obviously not everyone has the knowledge to do a full pre mot check on their cars. However every driver is required to have the ability to check if their lights and wipers work.
As only one side of the screen wash is faulty most likely cause is a build up of dirt in the nozzle. Stick a pin in it, job done. Bad screen wipers, wipe them with a tissue covered in vinegar, if that fails replace wipes £10.
One bulb blowing on way to test can happen to anyone but both headlights being blown suggests lack of care by owner. Bulb pack £5-£10 easy to change yourself on 206.
Cv boots could be cheap repair or expensive. A simple split can be glued If caught early ie last year but now I suspect a replacement is required. Expect to pay £100-£150 best guess for a garage to replace both if the joints are ok or £150 a side if joints are now damaged due to dirt.
Dependent on leak location the exhaust could be repaired with repair bandage for minimal cost but unless its the cat a new section is likely to come in under £100 with fitting.
This just leaves brake pipes and rear bush to price to decide if car is economic to get through mot.
I suspect the rear bush is borderline and had the car been presented with just this fault tester would have allowed. However the tester ws presented with a car showing a total lack of care or maintenance so he has listed all borderline items as fails. Cant fault the tester for this.
This is not intended to be having a go at op the point i am making is people need to prep cars for mot.
Edited as I missed ball joints, new track arms required at around £50 each for parts but labour will be reduced as cv boots can be done as part of this job.0 -
Firsty Thanks to those who have replied without nasty comments. This has been in my possession 2 years and has been regularly serviced at Halfords with new parts last year with a mechanic who is also aware of my style of driving etc. This has just been inspected by them again ( Person who done recent MOT was trusted due to ill health ) and they believe parts have been removed, on purposely damaged and confused as some items at first glance is actually fine?? Once again I appreciate everyone who wrote back but can confirm this has not been ran into the ground or no need to be in dispair when I am placing a claim with Small Claims Court for Negligence amounst other reasons x
You clearly don't agree with the test result and the small claims route won't prove as to whether the result is correct or not.
What you need to do is make an appeal on the test result, download a VT17
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/449313/complain-about-an-mot-vt17.pdf
fill it out, don't get the vehicle repaired and have a DVSA vehicle examiner look at it to determine the validity of the test result.
If your appeal is upheld, you'll likely get a shorter list of fails and the tester will get disciplined.0 -

as a supposed mot tester i expected a rather more robust answer0 -

No, that was the perfect DS solution. Without seeing the car no-one can know if the faults are real or not with certainty. So, use the official appeal procedure and get it retested by an impartial examiner who has the power to rain life-changing grief down on the first tester IF he's "up to something".
Of course, if he was touting for work it's highly unlikely he'd invent a list that's going to cost more than the car's worth but maybe he has a grudge against middle aged Peugeots after one squahed his pet hamster?0 -
Take it to a council run MOT centre who have no interest in the repair work?0

I have read it and as others have stated the car has been poorly maintained which does not surprise me as you have had it serviced at Halfords
What do you mean by this? My current car is one I've invested into to keep it well maintained, and Halfords do my servicing!
Not sure if it's a joke or I should actually be doing something different lol0 -

Well-maintained and Halfords are not words usually used in the same sentence.0 -

It's no joke, Halfords record for servicing standards is, well, shabby to say the least. Try Google -it is your friend at times like this on getting reviews about Halfords, Kwik FIt and other national chains and their methods of lying, blagging, and not actually doing what they charge you for, or claiming unnecessary work needs to be done.........
If I knew an owner selling a car was having servicing carried out by Halfords, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.........0 -

I only got one advisory at my last MOT (9 year old car). You got way more value out of the tester than I did.0 -
Hey, you've convinced me to stop doing my own servicing and to use Halfords instead.

Not even remotely what I was saying.
Was looking for legitimate advice, but hey, thanks for being an !!!.0
