Just questioning your spelling, Scottish or Scot's or Scotland's Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0

apologies - a very long week...
I'm not going to change it now or everything following it won't make any sense. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

I do find it interesting that on other threads you can see certain posters extolling the virtues of communism and virtually demanding it is implemented here, but on this thread they only want to pay for exactly what they've consumed. Almost like capitalism. There's a word for that...0

I saw something similar and was equally amazed until they came to pay the bill and I realised that he could barely speak with a tube in his neck (too early to look up accurate terminology:o) and that it was actually a very sensible way for themto communicate.
I doubt that's true in many cases but it certainly gave me a jolt regarding making assumptions about strangers.0 -

In my case it was someone I knew and his friend, in their twenties with no communication problems.
I think the 'in their twenties' bit is key...
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

Probably more prevalant in that age group and younger, but I was amazed to see a series of FB posts from a couple we know who were out at a Valentine meal together and who were postng comments to each other via FB. He is a doctor in his early fifties! He is obsessed with technology and posts almost every detail of his life on FB. We do split the bill though when we eat out with them, and they do put FB down for the duration!!;)0 -
That so not unusual.
We have one family come in weekly, the twins are nine, mum and dad mid 40's. Soon as they are sat, the boys pull out their iPads, dad his phone and mum just sits looking totally bored
Another couple come in, late 50's, he pulls out the lap top, she her phone
couldnt even hazard a guess on how many couples spend the evening on their phones whilst out for a meal
Perhaps for them, like me, eating out isn't always a special coccasion, rather a means to an end0 -
We are at the birthday party meal this weekend. The subject of taking some money with us came up this morning. Our hosts are paying for 2 courses. we need to pay for son's third course plus all drinks for the 3 of us. Having had some additional unexpected expenses and it being a week off payday, I have suggested that we buy our drinks separately at the bar to avoid being drawn into a we'll split the drinks bill between the whole party scenario.0
