I actually like the sound of these tasting menus. With the portions being small, I think I could manage it all fine, although it would depend on what the desert was, anything too sickly and I wouldn't want it. But, I do like the concept of them.
I can understand though why most places insist on everyone in the party having them. I don't think it's anything to do with people's experiences being spoiled as such, more to do with the ease of preparation and serving the whole table at the same time. Totally different concept than ordering off the normal menu.0 -

You've said repeatedly that people will try to force you to pay for their choices, you've insulted multiple other members with personal remarks, you've said you're not a people person and you haven't left the house in months, you've got a weird obsession with people eating king prawns and you have labelled anyone who doesn't follow your eating habits with increasingly pejorative terms. You ooze negativity for the above reasons.0 -

I've met her since, too - and there's something not quite right there, can't put my finger on it. Maybe she's got an addiction I've not dreamed of yet. Something a bit "chaotic" about her. Anyway, I don't trust her.
If it takes people 10 seconds for them to work out if they like you/not, or to hire you/not .... I think I can figure out in 3-4 hours that something's not adding up ....
Having been able to sum up that someone I know of here is:
- a thief
- unkind to animals
- will break the law if it suits them
- a litter bug
in a grand total of having come across them for about 2 hours in total = I'm perfectly prepared to believe it's possible to sum someone up in 3-4 hours flat:(
It depends very much on the person I think as to how long it takes to sum them up and some one can tell in literally minutes and others it will take years. But...yep...it is possible with some people in a matter of hours..
...and this is someone that is widely regarded as "pillar of the community", "respected", "loved" even - which only goes to show just how bad some peoples judgement is...0 -
You're the one who put the laughing smiley with a reference to people "twiddling their thumbs" as if there was nothing else to do apart from shovel food into your gobs when you're eating out with friends and family. I would have thought that company and conversation were equally important to the food-shovelling.
This is the sort of remark that makes me think people DO care if you eat more than them, regardless of what they say, and that when they say someone is 'greedy' it IS about the amount of food they eat.
When I go for a meal, I like to eat. This doesn't mean I don't like to talk as well. But if I just wanted to talk, I wouldn't bother going to a restaurant. To me the primary purpose of going to a restaurant is to eat.
So, it seems that people with healthy appetites ARE looked upon as greedy by some.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

What is this eating "properly" pray tell? :rotfl:0 -
Why can't you discuss the taste with your companion because you are eating different things? And why wouldn't they be eating at the same time? The two diners will be getting a similar amount of food, just portioned up differently. And why would it really matter if diner B finished their food before diner A? Or are you, like others here, obsessed with the act of shovelling food into your gob rather than actually talking to your dining companion?
Why are you having so much trouble accepting that it is a different experience?
You seem to have this fixation on this topic, it's quite worrying.0 -

This idea that you are either putting food into your mouths or "twiddling your thumbs" implies that the social interaction is secondary to the food.0 -
