My "Out of the Rat Race" adventure.

Hi There is a Light
All this talk of yummy food making me hungry!
Another one here who is keen to escape the "rat race" (though I've neglected my MF diary for a while now - need to dig it back out!) so will be seeing with interest how you get on!
Good luck on the fire wood job- as you say a necessary but taxing job, but at least you can put your feet up with a cuppa feeling virtuous once it's done!0 -
Hi Theyouneone, I can talk about food all day long.
Wood gathering was a huge success but hard work, we were out for a full 3 hours! Shoulders were aching a bit after all the lifting and carrying so I have treated myself to a nice soak in the bath. This is quite a luxury as we are in a rural location with bottled gas for our hot water and central heating (hence the wood burner) Mr Light and I got a bumper load of 20 bags, we literally couldn't fit any more in the car, we will go back in another couple of weeks to get more to build up the winter store.
10 days without eating out, I am really proud of myself as this is the longest we have gone for several years. I can't say I have missed it at all and we have still socialised just not in expensive restaurants. I really love Asian food so I am having a go at curried noodles (Wagamm@ma style), topped with a salmon fillet for me and chicken for OH. ( Don't eat meat at all and occasionally eat fish). Hope that it is tasty as I am starvin Marvin!
Work tomorrow which is fine by me, time to crack the whip with those students"These things take time but I know that I'm the most inept that ever stepped"0 -
Morning
Bit of a later start for me today. I try my best to avoid the heavy rush hour traffic if I can by being flexible with my working hours. As I teach 3 evenings I can go in late apart from a Wednesday and also have the luxury of a Friday off:j Result is a £20 diesel cost for the week for a job which is 12 miles away in a town accessible via a busy A road. I can live with that. The difference in travel time is immense as without traffic it is a 15-20mins max journey. In rush hours this can be over an hour:eek:
MMM would advise that I sell up and move closer but the problem in that plan is that Mr Light works 6 miles in the exact opposite direction.........he would tell him to cycle in:rotfl:
Having read lots of diaries lately I was particularly inspired by a fellow teacher who resigned from a senior position while her OH was also out of work but was brave and did it anyway as she was unhappy with how she was treated and the unrelenting long days. A key point was she was MF which allowed her to take this choice. She was snapped up immediately by a local school of course. I haven't read past that point so I hope that it turned out well for her:D I am convinced that it did as she is currently planning a trip to Europe in a campervan.
Anyway, there is a point to this. It has really made me think about how I feel about my job. I can honestly say that since I was ill last year things have improved immensely and I am enjoying my teaching. I do not feel constantly stressed and avoid bringing work home at all costs. Maybe I have found that Work/Life balance that people talk about. Funny how I get less emails in general now people know I only read them during work hours:cool:
I think my road to FI will include staying where I am for the next 5 years unless things change quickly and if I have learned anything in my 17 years working in FE, they just might."These things take time but I know that I'm the most inept that ever stepped"0 -

Ugh! Cold has not retreated but doesn't seem any worse. Roll on 9pm....
Should be another NSD as should tomorrow. Aiming for every week Mon-Thurs to be no spending.
The cat won't be happy though as we are down to dried cat food only."These things take time but I know that I'm the most inept that ever stepped"0 -

Thanks Beanie, cold ended up a full on tissue fest so I had to nip out from work to get reinforcements to get through the day. Didn't get home until 10pm and can't say I slept soundly. One more long day to get through and I have the long weekend to recover. It will keep us out of the shops though.
