Just wanted to wish you good luck with your plans.

I stopped working 15 months ago, and it's been great.

I like to read about other people who are on their way to 'FIRE'

  • Thanks Goldiegirl. I am really motivated with the thought of FIRE at the moment. All I seem to have been reading recently are blogs such as MMM, BNL and Frugalw00ds etc and reading the diaries on here. So much good advice around and ideas that I can't wait to try.

Congratulations on reaching FI and quitting work. It must be such a good feeling :)

  • Day in the office for me today, nothing too strenuous thankfully. I have lots of little things to sort out which have been on my mind for a couple of days so a day in will do me good. Tomorrow and Thursday I have some tuition sessions so I must get my desk cleared today. Friday I have as a holiday so nice short working week for me :D

For those who followed my DFD I had to take some time off work due to stress and anxiety so I am trying to manage that the best I can by concentrating on my wellbeing and remaining positive. Work has improved massively but a recent event has knocked me again. I do like my job but no longer love it and I have lost my passion for it. This is one of the reasons why FI is so important to me. I might figure out what I want to do when I grow up:rotfl:

Yesterday was a NDS and today looks the same. Might have a mini mission to have 4 in a row!

No new surveys this morning, no interest on the Netbook for sale.:(

    Morning :)

Survey sites are quiet this morning and still no interest in the Netbook. It is hasn't gone by the weekend I will lower the asking price.

Another NSD yesterday despite having some strange looks in the work's cafe as everyone bought lunch and coffee and I ate my own home made lunch with a cup of tea that I carried down from the office kitchen. Seriously it's like 5 floors away and free yet still my non MSE colleagues willingly cough up 70p-1.20p a go to save the bother. Comments such as 'I never have time on a morning to make lunch' or 'I can't be bothered to do that every day'. Numpties!

It was very interest actually listening to the conversations about facelifts, hair extensions and false nails and eyelashes. I have only every had false nails and eyelashes on once and I felt really uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong I like to have my hair nice but do not go for the over complicated beauty routine. Quick wash of face with a non soap foaming cleanser and a quick dab of moisturiser with SPF15. Sometimes (quite often) I go to bed and forget to wash my make up off :rotfl: I doesn't seem to have done any harm as one lady who hasn't been there long asked me how old I was as she was surprised that I had a son aged 22. I felt quite chuffed :D

  • Thursday already, last day in at work for me. Starting at 12.00pm as I have a revision session until 8.00pm tonight.

Had a couple of surveys last night and reached my payout for a £20 compliments voucher. That takes the total No Spend Christmas fund to £194.10. :j It's amazing how it all adds up.

My hair needs another cut but I am going to try and get away with just having my fringe trimmed as my hairdresser will do this for free in between appointments. I have decided to ditch her after this as the last bill came to £111:o for a cut and highlights. I have had a couple of different salons recommended so will try a different one next month. In the mean time I will just have to try and ignore the roots growing and the smattering of grey that comes with it.

In the past I have always used a cheap and cheerful local hair salon where I can get a cut and highlights for £35 but the last few times I have not been happy with the cut and she seems to be hiring the most unprofessional staff. Final straw was when I was sat waiting for my hair to be dried and one of her staff lit a cigarette in the salon from the kitchen area and smoke wafted throughout the place. They also swear quite a bit and have made racist comments:o While the £35 would be a nice drop in price I just can't face going back.

  • Hi, great thread. Nothing better than stepping out of the commercially obsessed world and working towards a simple life.

A good way to make money is to advantage of the current account switching incentives. I opened a random account and set up 2 direct debits and basically kept switching banks (while keeping my main account the same) and just collected the payments. I think I did 4 banks last year and made £400 with little to no work, usually just sorted it during my lunch time at work.

M&S did a great one, where you get £100 in vouchers when you 'switch' and then an extra £10 voucher each month if you meet the criteria for 12 months, which is like £220 in vouchers. that's how im paying for Christmas.

    Good luck

  • I've followed you over here Light. :D You're going to be my inspiration for future living. I've still never gotten round to reading MMM or the other stuff. I'll put it on my list of things to do... Good luck with it all.
