Vent for the day concerning people parking in supermarket car parks.
Over the last few weeks I have noticed a number of drivers who reverse their cars into the parking bay. When they have finished their shop they then push the trolley between the parked cars in order to load the groceries in their boot
They struggle to avoid scratching the car and find themselves with limited space to lift their bags into the car Why not just drive forward into the bay when they arrive.
Secondly in order to avoid the above and because I have suffered a few minor scrapes and dents from other car drivers doors in the too narrow bays I usually try and park far away from the shop entrances an area where they are plenty of empty spaces
Invariably when I have done this I come back to. find someone has parked next to my car even though there are plenty of empty spaces nearby, Again why ,is it the herd mentality.?
Ok vent over time for teaI realise this is not important compared to other world problems, but I am interested in what others think.🤔

I've reached the conclusion that 90% of people loose half of their (already limited) IQ points the moment they enter any sort of car park.0

One of the eternal mysteries of life. I don't understand it either, it might make it easier to get out of the parking space, but it's far more inconvenient to drag your shopping between card and have limited access to your boot compared to the minor inconvenience of reversing out. Crazy people.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Strictly speaking, it's consistent with the Highway Code, even though it doesn't apply directly. If you compare it with reversing around a corner, you MUST reverse from the major road onto the minor, not the other way round (unlike the !!!!wit I watched cause an accident the other day in Bath)0

I prefer to reverse into spaces. I'm more accurate in my parking and have no visibility problems if someone decides to park in the space next to me. I leave my trolley at the front of my car and carry the bags to the boot if there is a car next to me. If the space is empty, I take the trolley down to the boot.
I tend to park further away when possible, so I'm not next to anyone. I'd rather walk a bit further than have someone park so close to my car that I struggle to get in. I'm not particularly large, but some drivers park very close to the white line, rather than centrally in the space.0 -
I'd love to hear from some one who does choose to park next to the lonely car in the carpark !!
Absolutely astonishes me, when i park alone out of the way with spaces either side, almost 100% when we return someone is right next to us, WHY ????
Why would you purposely choose to park at the side of another car ?
To line up ?
Just to annoy ?
Come on someone who does it must be one here ! own up why ?0 -

I've noticed this and when I've parked in the lonely spots and come back to find a car parked next to me I've found that they've parked so close to me that I've had to clamber in to the car via the passenger side! I also wonder how they've managed to get out of their car too unless they climbed out via the passenger side also!
I've never managed to fathom this one out given the massive choice of spaces they have!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Did you actually read the original post?
Nobody said it was one of the mysteries of life. I posted this to see if anyone else would like to comment on the situations I described.
Your post adds nothing to the subject mentioned.
If you have nothing useful to say why don' t you save your time and concentrate on posts you consider more important. Better still exercise your mind and and start a post on the mysteries of life. This will save you having to bother reading posts which you obviously think not worthy of raising.
It will also save other readers from having to read your inane comments.0 -

I've told OH that if there's any kind of apocalyptic scenario where we're worried that we're the only people left, all we need to do is go and park in the local town centre car-park to find someone else. I can guarantee that even if every other space is empty and the town appears deserted, someone will come and park right next to us.0
