Contactless cards for basic accounts are rare within LBG as basic cards are online cards so the customer can't go spending without terminal checking for balance before authorisation, as contactless cards are offline cards and doesn't actually check balances this may answer OP issues.

keep checking with Lloyds as the internal score is updated monthly and will tell cashiers if you are able to upgrade to a full facility account which comes with contactless facility.

Technically it does, because as the card states on the back, it is "Not Valid Unless Signed Below".

Whether any cashier checks that is another matter ;)

Yeah I get where you are coming from, I mean the C&P terminal does not check and refuse because a sig is missing before or after PIN entry.

Quite regular abroad my national card would be pin & sign as furthed security checks, usually for some reason in national supermarkets.

I cant remember what mobile telco used chip and sign to set up a new contract or payg sim, was all integrated, no need to show ID for sim purchase as it was traceable to your bank account who held ID copies. Now that was Streamline merchant services in nature not name!
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Three do it that way. The PIN proves the owner of the card is present by one 50p charge, AVS checks the address provided against that for the card by way of a 50p charge, and £1 is refunded by cash with the SIM.

I believe Carphone Warehouse use chip and pin for that purpose as well.
