Lloyds refuses to give me a contactless debit card...

I initially had a contactless card on my Classic account even though my credit score is shocking. This is because the guy who opened my account spoke to some team (possibly the Lending team) to get it okay'd as I have a learning difficulty which means that the majority of my transactions would need to be contactless as I could not cope with chip and pin so it can be done. I now no longer have a contactless card as I have a Chip and Sign card as it got to the point where I couldn't use my card anywhere that wasn't contactless as I couldn't use the PIN number.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

So, to clarify, I did go to the branch, I've never requested a contactless over the phone.
I've gone a few times throughout the year, hoping that at some point whatever it is that needed to change, changed so that they could offer me a contact less. The first time they told me "we need you to be a customer for a few months to see how you do". Which as far as I know is pretty standard anywhere else as well. In Spain my credit card limit was raised automatically as time passed.
Anyway, it's always the same procedure when I go to a lloyds branch:
- I can't see the option here to order a contactless card. What I can do, is cancel your current one and order a new card and see if the option comes up.
- They try that, and the option does not come up.
Then they tell me that it means I'm not eligible for this product and depending on who I spoke to that day, they will come up with a different excuse.
This time around, I asked to speak with a manager, she saw the same as every other employee who tried, and tried to explain that this was due to the credit score and asked me if I knew my credit score and if there was something wrong with it.
I do know my credit score, and the only thing wrong with it is that I haven't been living in the same address for don't know what time, or that I have recent searches (there is a search for when I signed up with EE and Virgin Media).
But other than that, there aren't any scandalous reasons. I don't have debt problems because I don't have any debt, although I guess now you can consider EE and virgin short term loans.
I will try the nationwide account, if they give contactless by default, then that's all I need really.0 -

Mrs Ryan, typical of any bank not to actually know how their card system works esp when dealing with vulnerable of society.
Enter any contactless or otherwise chip and card debit or credit card with chip facing down towards you 3 times in the machine, it will ask for for you to re-insert again, repeat again....on the third fail the machine will ask you to swipe the (usually) black magnetic strip on the machine old school swipe facility, just make sure you swipe it the correct way as it is not very well shown.
Out pops a transaction slip to signSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -

You are correct but the shop could also ask for an alternative method of payment as the risk of any losses (with lost/stolen cards) shifts to the retailer from the bank where chip and pin is not used; if the card is chip and pin enabled.0 -

Part true, the staff must ask for photographic ID as secondary where they suspect anything, they cannot refuse the transaction where this is given and confirms, its a breach of the merchant services agreement.
Some retailers ask staff to make sure to be seen on camera checking ID with swipe transactions - to prove ID was checked and liability for fraud falls back to the bank.
I helped set up and train chip&pin with Visa outside the UK in one of my jobs when the tech was brand new. The ability of C&P terminals was dumbed down in the UK, the machines actually allow one card for a current, savings and credit card (or another savings account) you just linked what accounts in online banking to what card and used the chq/sav/credit on the card. I had 3 cards for all accounts, every card could be used as a tri cheque/savings/credit card depending which button you pressed then pinned.
One card in my person, girlfriend had card number 2 and 3rd card at home as a spare, one card, all accounts. Never without a card for any account... SUPERB!SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... Best of luck with your application - I am hopeful you will succeed but the proof will be in the pudding.0 -
Ahhhh the issue is the name on my photographic ID (passport) does not match the name on my debit card so that wouldn't have worked either. (Changed my name but haven't changed my passport) This is why I needed a Chip and Sign....*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

Not sure why you've given the address for TSB PLD when the issue being discussed is about Lloyds. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

I wouldn't be bothered about not having one as I don't like them. My latest card I had before Xmas was a new contactless one and most of the time I either forget and put my card in the machine anyway or when I do remember, it doesn't work and I have to wave it at the machine a number of times before it works.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090
