You should've held out for more! I cancelled a week ago and yesterday got an offer of 50% off. 35% is the standard they offer before you cancel.

Thought this might be interesting to some.

BF called up to haggle a lower price and was instantly given 20%. He decided it wasn't enough but the call handler would not go any further. He tried it on a bit but still nothing less then 20%. So he ended the call.

He went onto the online chat and asked for a discount again and was told 25%, so that's an improvement. But still not enough.

So he proceeded with cancellation. Minutes after completing the cancellation request he logged in online and was given 35% option for 12 months. All you needed to do to get the offer was click a couple of buttons and your account would be taken off cancellation, 35% discount applied and no loss of service.

We've decided to hedge our bets and see if we receive any lower offers prior to our disconnection date.

But that's a way to get a quick 35% off and you can do it all via online chat!

Edit: Just told him to go online and check, we've been offered 50% for 12 months. I think that's a good discount and I don't think they'll go lower than that so we've accepted it. Easy peasy and saving us £40 a month.

We're going to set aside the spare cash until we have £150 so we can purchase Q using the money we've saved.

A lot of deals can be had if you are willing to go all the way and cancel Sky and who know's maybe one day Sky Q will be discounted as well.

..think it'll be several years before Sky Q is "negotiable" -even then ,it will be tough because they can ask for all the kit back on cancellation, as its rented not owned.:)

And it costs £150 to "rent" it!

But in my experience, if you have the kit for long enough they don't request it back. We have a habit of keeping old TV boxes and such, leaving them in the cupboard for a few years until we're sure they're not requesting them back, then removing the hard drives and selling them on eBay (or in the case of modems, sell them whole on eBay - my talktalk one sold for £15 a few years ago!)

Why remove the hard drive ? A box without one is no better than a Freesat or Freeview box, which can be bought cheaply and does have capacity for recording.
