I understood if you were faced with above inflation rises then you could terminate your contract - is there a reason this is not the case this time?

Most regular users of the forum will not be paying full price.

For those that land here through twitter/the newsletter/a google search, it may be useful to point them in the direction of the haggling thread in the forum so they can see that there is no way they should ever pay anywhere near full price, and that it is so easy for the average Joe such as ourselves to get big discounts for minimal effort.

As per post#4 - a few hours effort once a year can yield huge savings on "standard" prices .For example ,I'm saving nearly £450 pa on the list price of my packages AND I got £100 bill credit just by actually cancelling the TV package.

I pay £21 for the basic package which we rarely use anymore as have prime and kodi, I would like to cancel but still want to keep the recording facility, would this be possible and if not what options do I have?

It costs £10 a month to keep the Sky+ facility without an active subscription which is a total waste of money.

If you intend on staying away from Sky, you'd be better off buying a PVR which will do recording/pause etc and is yours to keep for ever. After about a year you'd be saving money.

What are the alternatives, given the fact that most of them (Kodi etc) require an internet connection. Would it be frugal to build a sort of Frankenstein package taking internet & phone from a provider and combining it with Kodi/PVR?

I am/will be going down the Now TV + Hulu route on my apple tv as 99% of what I watch now is streamed or catch up.

With the money I save each month will get me a couple of films a month to rent and it's still cheaper than staying with Sky.

The only real justification for staying with Sky now, is Sky Sports -everything else is readily available legally via NowTV/Amazon Prime/Netflix etc . Sports is more difficult and I've found that streaming is only partially successful and generally poor quality.

How do you find the quality of Now TV?
