Negative driving instructor

I hope I posted this in the correct place,

I have been learning to drive since October I've put in over 50 hours my test is booked end of March I've rebooked it once did to my instructor saying I was not ready.

Now we are getting close to the test date I have been doing intense lessons of 4 hours a day and last week he told me to re-book my test as no way I was ready.
Feeling frustrated I went to another private driving school and told them I was looking for a few lessons to fill in the gaps as I hadn't booked lessons with my current instructor (which is a lie, I didn't want to ask for a 2nd opinion just yet) so I did a few lessons with someone else when I noticed a big difference with the instructors...this guy was praising me, I felt confident with him, I had no fear at roundabouts and I just had the feeling he was there for me, not once did he have to stop and tell me I had performed poorly or tell me I could have done better.
In our last booked lesson I asked for his opinion and he told me he was confident I was ready for a test and that he would be happy to perform a mock test.
So back to my current instructor, I realised although patient (to a point) he's very negative if I do something correct he tells me to drive on but if I do something he's not happy with he tells me off and lately is shouting at me.
For example today at a roundabout I had done my checks and was ready to go when he went on the brakes! He asked if I had seen the car on the right in time, which I had he apologised and we moved on but stopped on the left and he told me off. He told me it was luck and he had watched me decide to late and said we'd go around and do the same roundabout again, I thought I'll do exactly the same as I had just done previous and that time he said nothing!

I'm feeling so discouraged I actually feel really sad! He tells me I'm not ready and he won't take me for the test until we book more lessons.

Can I please have some opinions on this situation?

If you pull out in front of another car on the test you will be walking back.

So go with the second instructor that you feel happy with? Not really sure what else you need to know
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • Why ask for advice when the answer is so obvious. Ditch the negative instructor and go with your new one that you feel more at ease with.

Your old instructor sounds like my dad. :) Either that or he wants to undermine you so you keep booking lessons. Sack the beggar!

I'd continue with the new firm. One little tip from my own experience: Have a few weeks break before your test. I know this sounds counter intuitive, but you can make yourself a bag of nerves by over practicing.

    Good luck!

Oh right, so the examiner will kick you out of the car and make you walk?

I wish I could but the other driving instructor is not available to take me for the test (I only had 3 lessons with him and never booked more) now my current instructor won't take me unless I book more lessons!

I think the problem is once I do a mistake which could be hesitating at the roundabout, using the clutch to early when approaching a junction, or using the clutch to late, we pull over and he gets quite irate. I'd prefer it if we could deal with the problem appropriately..not just tell me off. Then I get nervous and because I'm trying to be so perfect I make more mistakes...

My instructor told me about a pupils test where a car actually pulled out in front of them and because his reaction was slow he failed the test. He never had to walk back to the test centre! They just tell you, you failed or whatever

If the examiner feels you are to unsafe to continue, then he will suspend the test and take the keys back to the test station.
    Rare but it does happen.
