So this is what we have:-
Nicola Sturgeon has congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election.

Scotland’s First Minister, who yesterday admitted she was backing his rival Hillary Clinton, said it was “not the victory I had hoped for”, but that the verdict of the American people should be respected.

So why the !!!! can't she respect the will of the Scottish people (Indy) and the British people (Brexit)?

We're not independent as far as I'm aware. UDI wasn't declared. She's respecting the votes and wishes of people in Scotland re Brexit, those from all parties and the non affliated voted to Remain by a huge margin.

That's democracy and politics for you. She has a duty to respect what the people of Scotland voted for, not England, Wales or NI.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Off course she can have an opinion, the skill lies in who you express it to, as the FM she is effectively saying this is the opinion of the people of Scotland, pretty much diplomacy 101 stuff.

Where's the Welsh and NI posts?

Trump is a great believer in saying what everyone is thinking and laying it on the line how he sees it. What, do you think everyone who has severe reservations about him and his statements about banning/extreme vetting of muslims, sending refugee's back, mexican's being drug addicts and rapists, his vice president advocating 're eduction' for gays etc etc.. should now just kowtow to that sort of narrative ?

I don't think so. We'll see if whether Trump meant all that or not once he takes office. But given what he said to get there people are right to be wary AND to say so. Trump certainly would have no qualms doing the same. We'll have to see if he tones it all down.

  • Ruth's tweets are irrelevant she's not in government.

When you hold office there are standards and expectations that Nicola has on this occasion fallen short of.

I disagree. She said what a lot of us were thinking. The expectations are yours, not mine.

Trump was pro BREXIT so presumably he will throw his weight behind Sturgeon.

Doughty Scots will not be intimidated either way. Not by Trump and not by Westminster and not by the headwinds of SCEXIT.

    SCEXIT is a thing.
  • The opinions of the head of north Britain parish council are of no weight whatsoever.

Scotland has a population about half that of just London and is a net taker of tax. It is a poverty-stricken, economically dependent region, of nil significance nationally or otherwise. It is not a country; it is a department of the DSS.

If the SNP truly wants independence, they should stand Parliamentary candidates in England, and campaign for a national referendum - i.e. that includes the English - on whether Scotland should leave the union.

I'm sure the voters of England will oblige.

well Trump and you and scotland all agree on not intervening in the fighting in the middle east

like yourself he is in favour of letting ISIL behead, murder Yazidi male and rape and trade the women and girls. I'm not sure if he is proud of this like the scots or whether it is simply a tactical matter for him

Hell no, but you don't do it in public if you represent a government, you do it through channels and summits/meeting etc.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Angela Merkel's statement expressed the same reservations though and she represents a government ?
Angela Merkel has said she will only cooperate with President-elect Donald Trump if he respects the shared values of democracy and freedom between the US and Germany. The German Chancellor said: “Germany and America are bound together by values – democracy, freedom, respecting the rule of law, people’s dignity regardless of their origin, the colour of their skin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or political views.”
    Sturgeon :-
I hope the president-elect will take the opportunity to reach out to those who felt marginalized by his campaign and make clear - in deeds as well as words - that he will be a president for everyone in modern, multicultural America.
“Today must also be a moment for those who share progressive values - all of us who believe in tolerance and diversity - to speak up loudly and clearly for the values we hold dear.

Make up your mind, because you're all over the place in this one trying to pin something on Sturgeon when there are more important world leaders who've expressed exactly the same views. Why single Sturgeon out.

Trump is half Scottish though. Well his mother was anyway. Didn't he say he wanted to 'bomb the s***' out of ISIS ? So you might be wrong on that one.
During a speech at Decker Auditorium in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Trump said he would go after ISIS-controlled oil fields and "bomb the s--- out of 'em," to loud applause.
