Hopefully Salmond will serve an appropriate sentence for his behaviour, if he's found guilty. What does it have to do with independence beyond some kind of smear?

Most of the media is now owned by Tory supporting billionaires. During the last election, 100% of Tory advertising claims were independently verified and 86% of them were found to be lies. 0% of Labour's claims were found to be false.
In the media, the standards by which Tory politicians are held is different to the standards everyone else is. Boris Johnson has been given a free pass from his misogyny, his racism, his untruthfulness, and his incompetence. Diane Abbott, beloved punching bag of Daily Mail knuckle draggers, by every measure is less racist, less prejudiced, and less incompetent. But Little Englanders aren't waving their pitchforks at Boris effigies because Boris is a white right wing man.
I know it's hard for many people who frequent this forum to understand, but we have a first past the post system that means that every election the electorate goes to polls, a majority of people don't vote for a Tory MP, and then we get a Tory government anyway. Therefore, people get a bit touchy about even more perceived media bias.

Yes, it's all an MI5 conspiracy...Mark McDonald, Alex Salmond and Derek Mackay are all innocent...and Natalie McGarry didn't steal 30k of charity money. Wee Nippy is as culpable as all of them. They have shown they are not to be trusted.2
