Any leading politician with any decency would resign after losing 35% of their staff due to their own incompetence.

It's interesting to speculate on what Sturgeon's next move would be. According to our resident SNP expert, the plan was to go straight ahead with a Scottish Parliamentary vote to Declare that a Referendum was to be held, expecting it to be challenged and then apply to different levels of Court right up through Scottish Courts, UK Courts, European Courts right up to the UN in order to gain a legal basis for the next Neverendum.

The GE was meant to obtain a "Tripple Lock" on the mandate for a Referendum. It was amusing to hear time and time again that nevertheless the GE was nothing to do about Referendums or independence. However the other parties saw through that and not only accumulated between them more votes than the SNP but also, split as they were, to significantly increase their seats.

So Sturgeon is wondering how to react. I doubt she will be daft enough to go ahead with the original plan, although I rather hope she will. So what will she do?

    Any speculations?

My own is that she will try the old and trusted Mission Impossible Trick. Namely that she will say that May has to take note of the electorate's rejection of her Hard Brexit and that therefore May is obligated to keep the UK in the Single Market, and she will wait and see if that "Obligation" is met and then revisit the Referendum Idea if it is not. Of course she will try for referendum anyway in order to get it done before time is up on her Government, but not tell anyone until the last minute.

Naturally waiting until that late stage would risk having a legal challenge to the referendum delaying the referendum until after Brexit and the (dangerous to the SNP) next Scottish elections. Challengers to a new Scottish Parliamentary motion may take their time to achieve just that.

I suspect Sturgeon will go ahead anyway with a Scottish Parliament motion for a Referendum hoping that nobody notices.

Any other ideas? Come on, it's only a game, a bit like train spotting.

If she does that then the obvious thing for Westminster to do is accept it and tell them to hold their referendum immediately.

Do nothing. The window of opportunity has closed. With an obvious lack of appetite to boot. Simply get back to the day job. As winning the electorate over to her point of view. Now has more to do with the performance of the Scottish economy than anything else. Also she has some real opposition to contend with. No longer a free ride.

I think the fact that flatearthers having more say over what happens to Scotland than Scottish people is not going to go down to well. .. I can imagine the disgust many people will have regarding the terrorists that May has went into coalition with will be vocal

The death throes of the UK is more spectacular than even I imagined

There is not enough popcorn in the wold to cover this scenario ... so maybe I will just sit back, smile and watch it implode

Ah diddums. I guess you know how the English felt about Nicola's threats to ride roughshod over the rest of the UK now.

    Unlucky.

At least get your facts right. As it's not a coalition. DUP will merely support and asked to vote for Government policy on case by case basis. Which they do currently in the main. I thought you'd be pleased that Westminster power has been curtailed.

While May has got her election campaign wrong. What we most certainly have is both main parties being pro Brexit.
