I really like this recipe, the texture takes a little bit of getting used too but stick with it! It's also easier if you do the first two steps in advance, the quinoa kept quite nicely in my fridge in an airtight container for four days so you could batch cook and then just portion out and finish off each morning. Quinoa has no taste of it's own so you have to use spices to give it a bit of taste. I had mine with frozen berries, crushed almonds and a sprinkle of Linseed on top but you can put anything on there - I also like meridian peanut butter but if you are following sw the syns are heavy!

The jelly and yoghourt recipe reminds of one Mum made for us as kids, jelly made up as on packet and tin of evaporated milk whisked together, and left to set, more like a mousse than a jelly. Was lovely.
Wish I could find a recipe for home made butterscotch Angel delight, as I can't get it here, and it's wonderful. Must stick it on my list of things to bring back home with me, next time I'm back in the UK!

My mum used to make that as well, was delish

Funny enough I've had a craving for evaporated milk for months now. Not had it for 40 years so I might not even like it now :)

Fed my lot broccoli cheese soup made with broccoli that was limp and going golden. And biscuits (I'm from the US so not the same as your biscuits) and hamburger gravy. They were full and happy.

Ssounds delicious, would you share your recipe please?

I found yeast in the cupboard. :j I def didn't buy it, it's either what the kids have fetched home by accident after cookery at school or DH bought it. Wasn't even looking for it, I was looking to see if we had any cajun spice for some prawns later for tea - we hadn't, but I did find a chicken and seafood rub brought back from U.S.A instead so going to use that.

missymoo- Probably too late now, but in an earlier post you mentioned having to get Easter eggs. A tip from Marleyboy on the cheapskates thread mentions buying £1 eggs and then 'topping' them up with putting an extra mars bar etc with them. The chocolate bars often go into a value pack of 4 for £1, so what I intend to do in future is buy them and save to top up the easter eggs.

Thanks spendless, will definitely do that with Easter eggs next year. Well done on finding some yeast. I've only got 3 sachets left, buttons of 2011 flour that is still fine!

Oh dear, I didn't really use a recipe but here is what I did:
Saute one chopped onion in olive oil until translucent.
Add chopped broccoli and saute with lid on for 3 or 4 min longer.
Cover with enough chicken stock to make it soupy.
    Add thyme, salt and pepper.
Cover pot and cook at low simmer about 10 minutes.
I then let it cool slightly and then blended it until smooth.
Add about a cup of shredded cheddar (or what ever you have...Some blue cheese crumbles are good)
Stir in about 1/4 cup of cream or milk and heat until cheese melts.

I used frozen biscuits but any southern (US) biscuit recipe will work. While they are cooking I saut!ed 1/3 lb (150g) hamburger (beef mince). Or you could also use ground fresh sausage.
When no longer pink, add 2 slight handfuls of flour to the undrained mince. Stir until flour is incorporated into grease and mince.
Slowly pour milk into pan stirring all the time. (Probably about 2cups)
Continue stirring until gravy thickens. Add lots of black pepper and salt.
Open biscuits and cover with gravy.
This was enough for two men with some biscuits left over.

p.s. I think my ounce to gram conversion is correct but not sure. I just loosely covered the bottom of a skillet with the mince.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

  • missymoo If you love all things bready have a look at D&DD's apple braid on the adventure in bread dough thread, it is AWESOME! I use the recipe to make iced buns apple whirls, cinnamon buns and lots of lovely things.
Lots of other great ideas on there such as onion whirls, monkey bread etc.

You could use the quinoa in Cake recipes, something like this :)
