Ouch, lessonlearned. Take it easy.0 -
Yes I'm resting now, going to watch a DVD in a minute.
Fab school pudding recipes, my boys will love those.0 -
I would imagine they freeze well too, I don't mind if my freezer is full of ready meals, hm ones) or easy grab snacks, it's when they're full of odds and ends of ingredients I can't fathom what to do with I struggle!0

I have a good stock cupboard and a freezer full of food, and we are running it down to replace it with fresh at the moment. I admit that I always get into a cold sweat when we do this every year, it is my safety blanket.
We have been through redundancies too many times in thirty years of being together (29 years married) and it was always hard going, especially as we had a mortgage, it is even worse now because it takes so long to get benefits sorted, up to six weeks if you are lucky.
I know that there are food banks, but the food is mainly processed.
I like to keep the freezer full of meat that I buy from my local butcher and home grown fruit and veg. I have five adults to feed, three of them are men who eat like horses, my DD is vegetarian and I have to watch what I eat because I am diabetic, so I tend to eat low GI foods.
I also buy heritage seeds that I save but I don't faff with parsnips and carrots because their seed saving is tricky.
Anyhow in Aldi this afternoon I did spend quite a lot on veg in the super six.......... parsnips, savoy cabbage, 1 kg red onions, swede, 1kg carrots and 2.5 kgs potatoes all at 25p each :j
3kgs of red onions, 3kgs carrots, 6 bags of parsnips , 2 savoy cabbage and 2 swede have been sliced and frozen. I also bought 8 bags of potatoes which will see us through the week
All for a grand total of £6
I also have a lot of mushrooms, celery and pears in the freezer that were from last week's S6.
We have soup and pudding night once a week and everyone gets to choose the pudding.
This week it was cream of mushroom soup followed by chocolate pear pudding
We also have one veggie day, and this week it was Pizza with onion rings and a salsa dip.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Thanks butterfly brain, that was my first thought! I phoned the Drs and had a lengthy conversation, and it's a viral rash, because they've been so poorly. It looks like nettle rash. Thank you.
And thank you for the aldi info! I may pop by with £1 and get some swede, potatoes and carrots, to par boil and freeze, I know it defeats the object a little. But we have a roast most Sunday's, and I can use all of those every week......0 -
My name is MallyGirl and I am a freezer-holic!
I have spent the last 2 days cataloguing the contents of the freezer. It is all on a list with the number of portions.
List your stuff when it goes in the freezer.
I have a 'raw' list & 'ready meal' list that I maintain scrupulously.
I even note how much meat (mince/sausage etc) & how many tins of tomatoes/beans etc I use.
I sit down every 3 weeks with these lists and menu plan.0 -
Found a tin of ham that is going out of date at the end of the month so I am going to dice it up, add some mushrooms from last S6 and some herbs and make a huge risotto with it next week, if my glucose levels are low, I think that I will have a small portion, the boys will see the rest off.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
