I got all confuzzled there, two threads...I thought I was seeing double until my brain finally caught up and I realised we had a brand new thread to post on.
Busy last couple of days, eldest came home from uni Thursday so it was rush rush rush everywhere, then today, I was looking after my niece for almost 4 hours, plus doing a college run for youngest, a small shopping trip, pay for youngest's birthday cake and finally a meal out tonight to celebrate eldest being home.
Did get a little annoyed re looking after the niece. Her mum texted me to ask and the way she worded it conveyed the feeling that it was for something important (they are having quite serious money worries at the moment and are at risk of losing their home so thought it was connected to that), so although I was already past my limit of capability, I felt I couldn't say no...turns out she wanted to go to bingo with a friend!
Niece was as good as gold however, although only 3, she appears to understand that I cannot move around as much as others and is quite happy to do the running around without me joining her although I remain engaged with her whilst she is doing it or that I can only play low movement games. She is a bright little button who likes to push the boundaries with her parents so I know she can be hard work for them at times but never for me (she tries to push, doesn't get very far and never gets away with things for an easy life - several years of dealing with two differing needs children comes in handy sometimes!)
Oh and talking about sausages, I made some at my parent's house today! Never done it before so it was great fun completely messing them up and having to start again. It certainly helped my stress levels as we had so much fun doing it and I left with a huge smile on my face and a pile of sausages ready to be cooked tomorrow. It has also helped my dad, he has had several strokes and has struggled with how little he can do now, so being able to research or think up new sausage recipe ideas and then play with his new toy has really brightened his life.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Had nightmare experience this evening. Agreed to go to a "hen" meal for fianc!e of husbands friend who I actually quite like. Got sat at the end of a long table with 4 horrible people I had never met before and despite politely sitting down and introducing myself, they managed to actually not say hello, look down their noses at me, chat amongst themselves and not even make eye contact at all for the entire meal. After 2 hours of sitting in silence at the end of a table I got up and left. It was like something out of a film. The people who had invited me, whom I thought were friends, sat elsewhere and made no effort to speak to me. I have to say I was totally and utterly gobsmacked. I could never be so utterly rude as to deliberately ignore a person for 2 hours. ............and hubby wonders why I don't like to socialise....really? that's supposed to be fun? Sorry. Rant over.0

Flybaby, :A I really sympathise! To be at the end of a table is bad enough, (although someone has to be!), but to be with such rude people! Did they not talk to you at all?
I must admit, in the long table situation, even with people I know, I do struggle to keep up a line of chat. That's why round tables are so much better, as you can all pitch in to each other. Trouble is, they take up so much space that few restaurants have them.
Even when I'm in the middle of a long table, I often find that the people either side of and opposite me are chatting to their other neighbours, and I'm still sat in silence! (Mind you, sometimes that's welcome, as I do need to go into standby mode from time to time. [The ADHD!]).
I'm so much better in a small group situation, say, eight max, where you can all hear what everyone else is saying, and pitch in as and when.
Fly, was it you who went to a works dinner last year, that turned into an expensive conversational desert?
If so, were the same people involved?(I just lurve spiders!)

.......ANNOUNCEMENT!.......
I've just been doing some research, and the statistics on WaS's four other part threads are these:-
POSTS: 30,784
That's well over Threequarters of a Million views!
If only a handful of those hummingbirds have been helped by WaS's threads, it would have been worth it, but I suspect a lot more people have been helped!
WELL DONE THAT WaS!!:T :T :T
I think that deserves a cake!.......
Or even TWO cakes!.......
(By the way, WaS, we haven't heard from Sir Pugliet for ages! What has he been up to? Jugliet's pining!)

no it wasn't me who had the work thing.
But yep, they actually completely ignored me for the entire meal. I am not fussed about being sat at the end of the table etc, I can quite happily make pleasantries with new people when required, but the women around me were unbelievable. It was quite something actually, it must have taken real concentration to be that rude for that long. C'est la vie.... I shan't be making the effort again.0 -

Did you initially try to chat?
Or did they make it impossible for you to chip in?(I just lurve spiders!)
