I feel bad for you Bolyki, both because of your issues with BT (I've been having a bit of trouble with them lately too), and because you have discovered that on this forum there are a few people who make it their purpose to ridicule people for asking questions in the heat of the moment.
You might want to have a look at http://www.btcomplaint.com/
Caveat: I have never used it but discovered it when searching how to complain to BT.
Given what you have said I don't think there is much chance of the sort of compensation you are looking for. Maybe ask yourself what you want? I would want a better broadband service more than compensation, as it's obviously impacting your online activities.
It's great to pursue an official complaint where you feel change is needed as it will also help others in the future, but don't spend too much time on it as it will probably just stress you out even more. Go through the standard BT complaints procedure and see what the website above says about Ofcom, Citizens Advice or ombudsman services which might apply. However, you should do this on the assumption that you will get no compensation for it. You might however get the service back 8mbps and this should be your headline request on any complaint, with an after request for compensation for your trouble.
If BT can't get your service back to acceptable levels and don't offer Fibre in your area then have a look at Virgin, or try to find a business contract with BT or another provider with a guaranteed minimum speed.
Hope it works out for you, post back and let us know what happens.0 -

The OP wasn't ridiculed for "asking questions". He was given short shift for stating that he intended suing BT for £500-£1000 for loss of a domestic internet service for a few days.I feel bad for you Bolyki, both because of your issues with BT (I've been having a bit of trouble with them lately too), and because you have discovered that on this forum there are a few people who make it their purpose to ridicule people for asking questions in the heat of the moment.
I suggest you read his other thread about the iPhone before siding so vehemently with this poster while attacking the other members of this forum.
To others I say "do not feed".0 -
Someone I know lost service from BT for a while.
Eventually a new cable was laid across a river and all the affected houses reconnected.
In the mean time incoming landline phone calls were diverted free to a mobile, and they were paid something towards mobile phone and mobile broadband use. But I don't think that amounted to £1000.0 -
I'm not "siding vehemently" I'm saying this forum should be about helping people.
I’m sure we’ve all blown off some steam and said we wanted to sue or get disproportionate retribution, in this case it just happens to have been on the internet.
I didn't attack anyone. However, others certainly were unkind to OP, when they could have given advice, like most of the responders on this thread.0 -

I'd read the thread again if I were you. Have you read the other thread from the same poster?others certainly were unkind to OP, when they could have given advice, like most of the responders on this thread.
There are others far more deserving of your support than the OP of this thread.
To be honest, by continuing this discussion further we only continue to elongate a thread which should be already long since concluded.0 -
I skim read it (it's a long post) and the most obvious thing I can see the same trend of people picking on some of OP’s phrasing and then using this post to make assumptions about OP’s character, which is not fair.
I’m sure you can pick specific elements of OP’s other post which you feel proves your point, but with the benefit of the doubt OP is simply someone who tried to sell a mobile phone and is getting scammed, and also someone who has noticed a drop in his previously acceptable broadband performance and is trying get advice on how to rectify both issues.
I agree this discussion should be over, because OP has enough information to continue, not because OP is not deserving of anyone’s support.0 -
Over the 8 years we've had more than a fair bit of issues with our connection dropping, especially during November/December, when Christmas light go on. It was an absolute nightmare trying to Skype relatives abroad, as at times we have had to redial every 5 minutes to continue our conversation.
Yes, it was really annoying to have to phone Sky, yet again, although we were given a direct number to faults department, which avoided questions like 'Have you unplugged it all and plugged it back in'?
Yes, it was also annoying having to wait for an engineer to come out and every new one saying that previous one didn't know what he was doing. It was also very frustrating, when the visit was cancelled 'due to bad weather' and it had to be rescheduled a week later, as the engineers were very busy.
Come middle to the end of January, the problem would not be as bad, so the Openreach would stop coming out, as they couldn't find fault and the connection was acceptable for use. That would be until the following November, when we had to start all over again.
However, Openreach were very accommodating with times I.e after 4-5pm or Saturday, and once we have had 1 month worth of fees reimbursed for the inconvenience. With both of us working full time, we still managed. Sky and Openreach were trying to do their best to sort the problem out and give us an established connection without intermittences.
Had it ever crossed my mind to take either of them to court?! No! And I don't think it's a normal reaction to straight away take somebody to court be it over a dropping/low connection or a debatable iPhone scam (I'm sorry but we only heard one side of the story). But far too many people seek out compensation over every little thing and obviously have too much time on their hands to be able to take to court anyone or anybody, who has caused them a little bit of inconvenience.0 -

If you cannot see that the OP is simply yanking everyone's chain then I have no more to add.I agree this discussion should be over, because OP has enough information to continue, not because OP is not deserving of anyone’s support.
Quite.I don't think it's a normal reaction to straight away take somebody to court be it over a dropping/low connection or a debatable iPhone scam
However, both the helpful posters and the those lambasting the OP (myself included) have simply contributed to this thread reaching two pages of replies.
The other thread has over a hundred!:eek:0
