The number of people becoming disabled is relatively constant.
The issue is with the fact that people are now staying disabled when previously there would be quite a lot of them getting better.
Amazingly cutting services from local Councils and the NHS for example has removed the ways many people previously would have used to help them recover.
So basically the churn of people with temporary and treatable disabilities has stopped/slowed in line with the removal of services.0 -

Could you give me some examples of the sort of thing you mean? I can think of the withdrawal of support for mental health. Is there anything else?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
The rehab centre that taught me to use a wheelchair and has closed. It was classed as a day centre so the public imagined it was essentially a sitting service for learning disabled people but in addition to classes for learning disability like how to do basic cooking and budgeting it did stroke and cardiac rehab.0

The entire system is flawed but the government and their advisors haven't a clue what they are doing and keep clumsily grasping at ways to reduce the spend.
I know of one claimant that suffered a heart attack at age 63, took 12 months off work on full/half pay claimed DLA was awarded mid care/high mob they retired at 65 with an occupational pension , back at work full-time and been told they will not need to be reassessed for DLA as they are over 65(67) they haven't needed to see even their GP for 3 years but now have DLA care and mobility care for an indefinite time. Those over 65 should not be left they should be subject to 're assessment the same as others.
More stringent checks with a claimants GP before and after claims would go along way to help route out those who suddenly fall ill again around the time of reassessment.
Maybe medical conditions need to be catagorised and treated according to the group and not individual as they are now....
Will anyone ever have the answer?
Firstly, would you swap places with him?
The problem with the 2nd highlight is simple, there are various degrees of the same illness and disability, just as there are different levels of tolerance/resistance etc within any group of individuals, age being a major factor.
It can only be looked at on and individual basis, your comment is about as wrong as possible I'm afraid.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

I would swap places with him in a heartbeat.... I'm physically disabled and had to retire 3 years ago at the age of 44, was diagnosed with arthritis at age 17 and fought my way through work for 30 years..After suffering a serious stroke last year I'm now mostly confined to bed!0 -
Stephen Crabb (Welsh sec of state) has been announced as IDSs sucessorcyclonebri1 wrote: »He already thought he had one;);)

That was quick wasn't it - I reckon that Cameron had prior knowledge !!
On 17 March 2016, following his vote in the House of commons to cut Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) for disabled people by £30 per week,[24] a 38degrees petition was launched demanding that Crabb resign his post as patron of Mencap Pembrokeshire.[25] Crabb's constituency offices in Pembrokeshire were also vandalised as a result of his vote. Graffiti asking: “Why do you hate the sick” was seen on the facade of Stephen Crabb MP’s building on 12 March 2016."
"In May 2009, it was revealed that Crabb claimed £8,049 on his second home expenses in order to refurbish a flat in London. After selling the flat for a profit, he "flipped" his expenses to cover a house that was being purchased for his family in Pembrokeshire. A room in another flat of a fellow MP was then designated as his main home.[23] At the time he said, "I haven’t claimed for things like plasma TVs, even though the rules allow it. My claims were always within the letter and the spirit of the rules."0 -
