I'm sorry you had a rubbish holiday, but at least next time you disagree over holiday plans you'll be able tell your husband 'look what happened the last time' and hopefully you'll get your own way next time! :rotfl:

So we booked the flydrive for next Easter a couple of months ago - into SFO out of LAX :j

Thinking about this by way of an itinerary -

San Fran - 3 nights - (have Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf booked)
Day 4 -pick up car, drive over GG Bridge to Muir Woods and Point Reyes - stay overnight somewhere just outside/on outskirts SF.
Day 5 -drive to Yosemite for 3 nights
Day 8 - drive to Monterey, 4 nights, (Aquarium, whale watching etc, DH wants to do a kayak tour of the bay)
Day 12 - leave Monterey, giving us 4 days to 'do' the coastline south to LA thinking maybe last couple of nights around Santa Barbara area so reasonably convenient for flight out of LAX

DD would love to do some surfing, any recommendations for good places for beginners? (She had one lesson this year when we were in La Jolla and loved it!)

    What do you think?
Any suggestions/comments? Have I missed anything obvious?

Possibly ! Always assuming that their are no driving difficulties in Yosemite, at Eastertime (I know nothing of that area :o), can I respectfully suggest that you hire the largest, most luxurious car that you can get, so that all of you can rnjoy touring around California. The extra space in the back of the car will be very welcome for anyone who is back there.

Even worse MTC, easter is early April next year so Tioga will definitely be closed, the cahins won't be up on half dome, but the falls should be in full flow!

Have to check... have you finished your texas planning yet?

3 nights is probably enough. Book the Alcatraz night tour online before you get there
Day 4 -pick up car, drive over GG Bridge to Muir Woods and Point Reyes - stay overnight somewhere just outside/on outskirts SF.
Weather (cloud\rain) may be an issue if you want coastal views-check!
Day 5 -drive to Yosemite for 3 nights
You are driving from N San Fran to Yosemite:- It will take you 3-4 hours (check this!) Waste of a day IMHO. I would drive close to Yosemite and spend the night outside but close. Then drive into park
    Sunset will be earlish 4PM??
Also if you are staying in the park then look to book this ASAP as inside the park get filled quickly

The Big Sur coastal road can get blocked due to landslides in the "rainy" season.
Try to visit Hearst Castle. The night\evening tour is th best.

As wdyw says the Tigoa pass will be closed and ther will be snow (you may need chains:confused:)
IMHO I'd do Monterey before Yosemite
