Did you see my posts a few pages back?
It's failry easy to DIY USA travel.0 -
other than LA and vegas, I loved it all.. was hard going at times, we covered 2,500 miles.. we saw some sights tho.. spent too long in some places and not enough time in others..
That's the price you pay for going on a tour:cool:
thats how it goes keeping to a schedule I suppose. we definately couldnt have done it ourselves.. i'd do it all again tomorrow if I could!
sorry its a bit long.. hope I didnt bore you all too much
I'm sure you could have and it would have probably cost you less and you'd have seen more.:D
Still, glad you enjoyed yourselves.0 -

thats the thing.. tesco points paid for most of it so were limited to cosmos or virgin for the holiday..
OH doesnt drive and I hate it, so wouldn't have driven over there.. know that for sure.. I nearly had a nervous breakdown driving in france once :rotfl:0 -
Mich - Don't put yourself down! Of course you can do it on your own! And from experience in May it is FANTASTIC when you do!
I am sure had an ace time and you saw a lot by your own admission but going on your own can be an utter joy! Both times we have been its been amazing!0 -
we had fish and chips elsewhere where they were chips!
they were nice tho so wasn't complaining.. :rotfl:
was a lot to pack in now I look back on it, we were thinking of just doing the national parks and canyons if we go again.. preferred the quieter places.
The beauty of not being tied to a tour is that you can stay an extra couple of days somewhere without having to worry about hotel rooms booked 200 miles away, just pop in to the nearest motel, of which there are always loads, and next day you can get an early start.
I did all the sights round Sedona before breakfast when the sun was just coming up and got some amazing colours in my photo's that are just not available to late risers.
Sounds like you had a good trip and judging by the pics you have posted so far, you will have brought home a lot of nice memories.0 -
I can heartily recommend doing the quieter parts of you tour independently, I have been to most of these areas myself in a combination of 3 trips.

It was fabulous..
think i'd do a tour again but would make sure there was more nights in fewer places..
sedona is beautiful.. loved san francisco too, nice vibe there.. would loved to have got a shot of the bridge with rolling fog
have added a link to post above for some of my photos, will get them all uploaded eventually0 -
Hello. I haven't got to the end of reading through this thread yet. Wow, it's huge!!
At the moment I've got as far as "the weather will be good in May, the weather will be too hot in July". I'm thinking about going over Christmas. I have a good friend who lives out there that it would be great to catch up with and he might come along with us or not, as suits him. He lives near Monterey, so I want to do the Monterey/ Big Sur thing and also fancy the Grand Canyon. At the moment this is just a crazy idea. I've never been to America. Is the weather in December/ January or the length of the days going to scupper this plan?0
