Morning all :) Lovely and sunny here at the moment.

So sorry to hear about your daughter's catering rhosynbach but at least it will get sorted out. Things like that seem like the end of the world at the time but ultimately it's the marriage rather than the wedding that is important. Congratulations on your other news.

Care visits...exactly the same issues with my mum :( Because she lived in an annex on my sister's house, the carers would try to get done as quickly as possible and let my sister pick up the slack. Too often, the last visit of the day got missed completely.

    I sympathise with your sister.

DD2, OH and three of my DGC had an very economic stay at the Hilton at Gatwick last night, courtesy of HE. :D (Mum's come in useful for loads of stuff ;)) Parking wasn't bad, either. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Flying out to one of your favourite places lunchtime today.

Just wanted to say on the subject of carers being a council carer for 15 years there are two sides to every story ......Things have changed dramatically since I did this very rewarding job as so many more eldertly and infirm to take care of ..cuts in budgets and lots more factors to consider ....I was given time slots for each patient but more often than not stayed longer than allowed as unforseen things would occur and I would stay as long as was necessary to sort it ...hence doing longer hours than I was supposed to and not getting overtime .Saying this I always tried to put myself in the patients position and think maybe one day I might need the same sort of help .
Apologise for the soapbox post ..but something I have always felt strongly about ..

    Got it in one, TS.

    Morning MKS :)

It was something they highlighted on dispatches. They worked out the hourly rate of when someone left home to their last visit that morning. The paid rate for the job was meant to be £7.20 hour but when they factored in the time between each visit this went down to £3.39ish. Carers are one of the poorest paid in society and when you think how much agencies charge :(. I know they have their overheads but it was also questioned in the program how much the CEO, I think it was, of one company was raking in. :o

You are right, TS. I didn't make it clear. Travelling time is included in the carers' day (or supposed to be) and not the visit time.
Dad needed two carers to lift him as after his hip replacement, he couldn't weight bear and had to stay in bed 24/7. He too needed the personal care that you've described for your Mum and felt as she did. The carers kept saying that they weren't told to change the sheets/laundry/basic cleaning then it was that they didn't have time. After a few days, his room was decidedly whiffy. I ended up writing in their log that I had advised the nurse who came daily to inject his warfarin and that she would contact their agency to advise that the required services were not being carried out. Later, I received a call from the Agency requesting that I provide additional bed linen etc. (ie 5 x sets of sheets, 5 x duvet sets, and 2 more duvets) as Dad only had 4 sets of everything! They also wanted more clothes airers so that the bedding could be hung up to dry. I always did Dads' personal clothes washing even though it was part of their remit. Ditto cleaning/washing up.

Sorry MKS I was off on one last night. :o The program made me so angry.

I often ended up doing the whole job of changing mum and the bed on my own in the early hours, as I could not leave her until they arrived and that was even using bed mats. I always did all the washing so there was always clean to put on, mum had a few sets thankfully although I did have to go out and get new sheets that were not fitted. I can do proper corners now. :rotfl:
