Certain diesels use a urea based fluid to help regen the DPF. It is called Eloys by PSA/Ford. It is a paid extra on certain services. Not all diesel cars use it though.

It's generally referred to as 'AdBlue I think.

No it isn't. Adblue has nothing to do with a DPF. Eolys fluid is a fuel additive on some diesel engines, notably those manufactured by Ford/PSA to allow for easier combustion during the particulate burn off phase of the DPF.

There was probably some confusion because wongataa mentioned it was urea based which I don't believe Eolys is.

AdBlue and Eloys are different things.

Most Euro 6 diesels need AdBlue to meet the new target.

Eloys reduces the temperature needed for a Regen, not sure what AdBlue does but it is common an LGVs and Buses.

DPFs will still need periodic removal for proper cleaning or replacement though.

DPF DELETE services. Have a look in your area. They remove the filter, remap the ECU so itknows it is not there and then you will have no further issues - and better MPG!

This is no longer an option.

The debate about why is further up the thread.

Adblue is a brand name for a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) used as a catalyst to reduce NOx from the exhaust emissions. As you mentioned this is used in Euro 6 engines and happens downstream of the DPF. The following explains it a bit better:

People still do it, i know a VAT registered garage with full MOT facilities that offers this service , they say the can needs to be put back in a proper way and should show no signs of tampering.

thanks for the spam. So... if i have my dpf removed and remapped i take it your liable for replacement when/if an mot tester finds out it has been removed?

    Many thanks

They dont remove it - they just remove the contents.

    Its not an MOT fail.

    We've been over this.

We are never going to agree on this point Motorguy.

If you want to use semantics as a basis for a defence then gut your DPF and then argue the point later that the casing is there so the DPF is still there.

Would a dealer take a car with a gutted DPF as a trade in?

I doubt it as then they would be responsible for putting the DPF back on before selling it.

If anybody thinks a trader (not a dodgy back street trader) will sell and warrant a car with a gutted DPF then I think they are wrong.

A Trader has to sell a car in a fit and proper condition, you can't argue that selling a car that is no longer compliant to Construction & Use Regs is for or proper.

    The legislation is pretty clear.

Removal of a DPF is an MOT fail.

If an owner removed the air filter element from the housing on their car and then left it without the filter who would suggest that because he housing is still present means the filter has not been removed.

Whichever chain of thought you want to follow is up to the individual.

But my opinion will never in any way cause you legal issues, will never cause an MOT failure of complications with C&U Regs.

Around 2010 the Qashqai engine went from Euro 4 ( no DPF) to Euro 5 ( a DPF )
Started my job at the bottom and liked it
