Except it isn't really an option, the car doesn't belong to the OP remember.

And talking of which, unless I've missed it, have you contacted the finance provider about this MrsB387?

No I haven't. The finance agreement is in my husband's name so I'm not sure they would talk to me. I will see what Nissan have to say for themselves first. I did look online and we are about £3k short of the 50% we need to voluntary terminate the agreement.

I'm not sure how the finance company could help us at this stage? Could you advise if you have had any experience?

The saga continues! Started out on the journey to Halfords to buy Cataclean. By time I got there both engine management lights are on again. Currently waiting for the car to be towed.

Just wondering if there is a clause in the roadside assistance policy about how many call outs you're allowed.....because I'm on my 3rd in less than 24 hours!

How does the Nissan DPF system, if the OP's driving was the cause I'd have expected the DPF light to be on regularly signalling it needs an active regen whereas the OP's posts imply the car shows nothing for months at a time then the terminal DPF warning. I'm only familiar with the VW system in actual use though so I'm wondering if the Nissan system is different?

As it is manufacturer roadside assistance, I doubt it has limits. Best thing for you to do is continue to call every time - annoy them into doing something for you.

Just make sure you comply with whatever the manual says to do when the lights come on. Don't drive at all if that's what the manual says. You don't want to be accused of doing further damage.

If you want to disguise the removal of the DPF, apart from the hollow sound from the canister, the non automated weld seam on the canister and the higher than usual smoke reading, how do you disguise all the soot in the tail pipe?

Admittedly on a test I can't see if the DPF internals are there and if I'm not 100% sure, I have to pass it, but there's nothing to stop me showing my suspicions on an advisory, which will be on record and for all to see.

It's in the garage now and I'm hoping that I don't have to deal with them or the car until Customer Services get back to me. RAC who have a contract with Nissan have delivered a courtesy car to me this evening and i have that for 3 days. It is then over to Nissan to provide me a vehicle if the problem is not solved.

I just want an end to this. It's stress we just don't need at the moment.

Out of interest, what is the courtesy car and is it petrol or diesel?

Ford Focus diesel. Why do you ask?
  • What's the mileage on the PCP agreement? If it low, say 5000pa and that's about what you are doing, then surely that strengthens your assertion the deal was missold. If the car is only designed to do 10k plus a year they shouldn't offer lower mileage contracts.
I'm not sure others saying it OPs fault for buying the wrong car can be right. If you are hiring/buying a car with your money surely you can use as you see fit, unless specifically told this car can't do a journey less than certain distance or time.
  • I'd read the owners manual, if that doesn't specify the journey type then seek further advice about rejecting this car as not fit for purpose. Look at this another way if someone bought a small city car and chose to commute 100 miles a day on the M1 and it kept braking down then clearly they would expect the car to fixed/replaced. If they complained the seats were uncomfortable or its noisy then maybe you could say it's the purchasers fault for buying the wrong car.
