PCP and Diesel Particulate Filter

A good idea is to use an additive such as JLM DPF cleaner, Wynns do a similar additive, you can get most of them in Halfords but you might have to look harder for JLM.
Also consider using Shell V Power or BP Ultimate Diesel (or whatever the expensive stuff is called now).
You could use the expensive diesel every other tank or use the additive every time you fill up following the instructions.
I doubt you can claim misselling as DPF problems on vehicles used for short trips is widely know, for at least 10years.
It is possible there is a fault with your specific vehicle?
Is there not some form or courtesy car or free Hire car via Nissan?
If you had bought an Evoque you would have been provided with a Hirw car as soon as your car broke down, you would get a free hire car of similar size. Under the Land Rover Assist scheme, you would also have access to Land Rover Techs that come out and often fix problems such as yours straight away.
Thanks for the tip. I'll have a look for the cleaner.
I'm beginning to wonder if their is a fault but as its not covered under the warranty it's going to cost me £££'s to get it fixed I'd imagine. The reason it's not booked in until April is because they have no courtesy cars available. Not the first time I've came across this problem with Nissan. I shall call Roadside Assistance first thing tomorrow and customer services after that.
I have been driving for 10 years + and have had a number of cars, all of which have been diesel. My driving habits have not varied that much so I'm sure I would have came across this problem before.0 -
Sensor problems are not uncommon with DPF equipped diesels. Failing to Regenerate is one of the problems that can be caused as the ECU needs to be told when the filter is full of soot.
Sensors will be covered under warranty, repeated forced Regens due to being use for short journeys would not be, they might do it once without charge but would then start to charge.
I don't know much about the new X Trail system to be honest.0 -

After much argument the last time Nissan didn't charge me and didn't seem to think that it would be a problem in the future whether or not I done as the mechanic advised. I've called breakdown out tonight to see if they can help and they will be with me soon.0 -

If they can't fix it at the roadside or same day at a dealer, you should get a car for up to 3 days.

Yes I found that in my paperwork earlier. I won't hold out much hope though.0 -
Breakdown have been out. DPF as we thought. The oil has also broken down? The guy cleared the faults, managed to get the engine above 3000rpm and advised my husband to take it for a drive, 60mph in 4th gear. He didn't even get out of our street and both lights came back on.
What do I do now? Call roadside assistance in the morning and have them tow the car?0 -
This will be controversial, but i'd consider a DPF removal. Around £300 will get the DPF taken off, split, the internals removed, welded up and put back on again, and then the car recoded so it doesnt throw any errors.
And before anyone whinges - that is NOT an MOT fail. DPF has to be present, but they only check the presence of the box, and the welding is done on the body up side of the box.0 -
The oil may will be contaminated with diesel injected into the system to assist a regen of the DPF.
Driving at 60 in 4th will get the system hot, but its not a long term solution. In 4th the vehicle is doing higher rpm so it is burning more fuel and therefore producing more soot. This is trapped by the DPF which then has to be burnt off and so the cycle begins again.0 -
I will call them out first thing tomorrow. We are dealing with a terminally ill family member at the moment as well as this so a car that needs the garage AGAIN is the last thing I need.
Thank you so much for all your advice tonight. I will return at a later date and let you know how it all works out.0
