Good grief have just done another 2 hours of photo sorting. Am now showered and resting before work tonight.
I need to buy some photo albums for next stage.
Have decided my children had a lovely childhood.

Whooo-hooo! Everything on today's list done, except for potting up aubergine babies. Decided I need to give them a couple more days in the propagator, but with it switched off, so they are better able to withstand the colder temperatures. This is a cold house. Lots of lovely jars of chutney & pickle cooling on the kitchen worktop. Mr f has just phoned to say he's wending his way home from work, fire lit, scented candle glimmering nicely. He also says he fancies sending out for a pizza. We'll decide when he gets home. If we have one, it will be bought from our 'spends', not from our bank account....that's how things work around here these days!

DNMS - Belated congrats on the job decisions! Massive decision, but how satisfying it will be to work towards being a clinical psychologist?! Do you have a first degree in psychology? Best of luck with your applications, anyway.

Oh....& here's a tiny bit of potential cashola. You know I've been busy knitting little funny cats? They are quite sort of shabby chic in style. I'm using vintage threads & the eyes are buttons from my button jar. I tipped out the entire jar the other day to pair up the kinds of buttons I'm using, & found 2 little pieces of scrap gold - a broken wedding ring, hallmarked, looks high carat & half a gold locket. I have no idea how they got there or to whom they belonged (certainly not to me), & they are very light, but if I can get them weighed in at our town jeweller's which buys scrap gold, then any cash, however small, will be better off in our Car Fund than languishing as broken jewellery at the bottom of my button jar. Wonder if the broken ring was maybe Grandma's? No idea. Grandma died in 2001 & never gifted me any buttons that I can recall. Oh well, mystery!

Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

The price for gold bullion at the moment is £892 per Troy Ounce. So if these things weigh 5g the true value of your gold is about £53 if it's 9 carat. 18 carat would be worth £107. Obviously your High Street jeweller would be wanting to make a profit and so would offer you less..but just so you know.

And, in case you don't have jewellery scales and want to get an estimate of the weight you have to plan a haggle...a 5p coin weighs 3.25g and a 10p weighs 6.5g. ;) I wouldn't suggest weighing them on digital kitchen scales as these things tend to round up or down by 5g so you won't get a good reading.

Thanks Ally. That's interesting. Last time I sold scrap gold, I was amazed to get £36 for a single hollow 9ct earring & a small length of broken chain.
With these recent finds, the ring looks higher carat than the piece of locket. I don't have digital kitchen scales, but anything I can get for scrap is welcome.

What a lovely thing to say, that made me smile.

Foxgloves hope your treasure brings you lots of cash!

Have been doing some work on DHs accounts and I am a bit shocked to discover that DH has only been working an average of 19 hours a week for the past year or so. No wonder the business brings in so little. However he refuses to discuss this other than to say he finds the work hard and to be fair he is having a blood test on Monday because he says he is always tired. So confused about what to do about this. I love him but I cant be the one to bring in the money and do all the domestic stuff without resenting it.

Well done on the job interview La e, I agree they are horrible things.

Hm lasagne eaten, going to light the fire and chill out once I have got the rest of the clean washing put away.
