If the seller merely refunds the purchase price to my paypal account, won't I lose out to Paypal fees?

    No.

Is Peril right to say that I can get the seller's contact details from Ebay?

Surely, for his protection he could just make a note of my car reg. no.?

Wouldn't hold up for 2 seconds in a paypal dispute.

Thanks for the link. As a result I have just now applied to ebay for the seller's contact information. It says it will also forward mine to the seller, which is not an issue as the seller already has it on the payment invoice.

As for the Paypal issue, I suppose if the seller wanted to refund it and ask me to bring cash on collection, I could just do that?

I have just received the seller information from Ebay.

The seller's name does not match the name for the Paypal payment! Which is likely to be correct, Paypal or Ebay? The Ebay name looks a bit like a Mickey Mouse type of pseudonom.

There is a telephone number which is local to me, as is the town but the seller has put the wrong county. Ebay doesn't give the address.

So the seller now has an email revealing my mob. tel. no. (as well as my address which was on the payment invoice).

According to Ebay, the seller is in breach of its Contact Information Policy and Ebay states that if the contact information is incorrect to contact Ebay.

I have not done this yet nor have I telephoned the seller yet.

What should I do next? I really just want to collect the item I've paid for and not cause trouble for the seller. But at this stage he has my money and I have no bath!

TBH, I can't see this sale going anywhere. It's worth trying the telephone number but I wouldn't hold your breath that it works.

Rule that out, then file for an undelivered item. When you get your money back, report him for false contact details.

Oh fay! I am so upset! Have I lost my money to a trickster?

Is there a way of finding an address from a telephone number?

I think I will wait until tonight to phone when my OH gets home.

    Thanks for all your advice.

No need to panic yet, paypal are pretty good at getting people refunds. I don't think the guy's necessarily a scammer, but, at the bare minimum, not cut out for selling! I think trying that phone number will be more revealing.

How is your paypal funded? If it's credit card, then you're even safer.
