Mounting the disk as a secondary in another pc and deleting
Hiberfil.sys might be the way.
There are other approaches too - assuming the pc is fastbooting, and actually starting windows, a quick look on the local router in dhcp to see the ip address assigned, followed by a browse to it c$ share, or remote regedit from another machine might open a few possibilities.
Another option would be to blind log-in if we think the keyboard is working, running cmd and executing "bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy" to turn F8 back on. Reboot pressing F8, then use low resolution mode option so windows doesn't load the intel drivers.0 -
Thank you all.
I've downloaded Windows 10 bootable iso on a DVD, the disc reader is reading it (by the sound of it), no output to the screen, no change to fan speed or sound. Keyboard is not lighting up either.
Unfortunately there is no other video output ports apart from USB ports that I don't have HDMI adaptor for
I've also tried renaming hiberfil.sys file (took HDD out and hooked it to another PC), this had no effect. Same black screen.
I guess it might be deeper than Windows 10 upgrade, perhaps the upgrade coincided or caused hardware failure too?
Not sure if getting USB-HDMI connection is worth a try, how am I going to get the PC to force the video output elsewhere (i.e. to the second monitor).0 -

The article above seems to indicate this is a corrupted BIOS issue, and the only way to get it repaired is to get it either shipped to HP! Quality.0 -
I've also tried this:
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03561545-4Step 3: Resetting the BIOS when the computer screen is blank
Perform the following steps to reset the BIOS back to its default configuration to resolve a blank screen issue:
NOTE: You can perform these steps even if the computer screen or monitor is blank.
Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key for eight seconds.
Press the Down arrow three times.
Press the Enter key two times.
The computer restarts.
If the screen is still blank, continue with the next step to turn off SATA Power Management.had simular care with desktop a couple of weeks ago , in this case it had destroyer the CPU
Well, the data is backed up, and precious but rare holiday pictures are saved, at least that's a bonus.
I will start saving up for a new PC, and this won't be HP for sure.
Once again, thank you all for the suggestions and your help, it is wonderful to see people sharing their knowledge.0 -
On my old toshiba when i upgraded i had a black screen and nothing would work. I removed one stick of ram (leaving one in place) and this enabled the upgrade to windows 10 to continue.0

I've done that already, no change. I only had one stick, so i took another one from my other PC, change places etc, tried various combinations. It's not a RAM issue.0 -
Are you saying that the combination of down arrow and Enter key causes it to do a restart? That suggests that at least some of the computer's intelligence is still there and understanding the key strokes.
I can't get it to restart each time using the method above, but managed to do so at least twice today, so it seems it is reacting albeit not in consistent way unfortunately.0 -

I think it's a coincidence there's been a hardware failure at the same time, I've found quite a few people who have had the same issue as you but it's not occurred during the Windows 10 upgrade - it's happened when the machine was still on its original OS or months after the machine has been upgraded to Windows 10.#Not sure if getting USB-HDMI connection is worth a try, how am I going to get the PC to force the video output elsewhere (i.e. to the second monitor).
I doubt it because I don't think the BIOS will be able to load the driver that's needed to use the USB->HDMI adapter. On the USB to Displayport adapters I've used and USB docks which give VGA and DVI over USB, they cannot show the BIOS/POST screens.
From what you've said it doesn't sound like the machine is booting, if it was purely a display issue and the machine was working or even reaching POST I'd expect a keyboard to be functional and show working caps/number lock.

I just checked your model on the HP compatibility upgrade to windows 10 page http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/windows10/upgrade.html# and it came back with this,
HP has not tested your PC model for upgrade to Windows 10.
If your Windows 7 or 8 PC was manufactured before August 2013 or is running Windows XP or Windows Vista, HP cannot confirm it can be upgraded to Windows 10.
First, ensure you are running the latest version of either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update.
My HP laptop with Windows 7 is about 6 years old. I really don't want W10 as the laptop is working ok at the moment. If it went wrong, I would have no idea how to sort it out. I keep getting prompts to install and I ignore them. Will it eventually get forced on me? On reading your email, I doubt that my laptop is suitable for it.
I want to wait until I have to replace it before trying W10
Mine is HP G620
